Personally, I stopped watching half way through the anime, but most of my friends love it. I hear about it so much that it is actually annoying at this point.
This. I saw a few episodes and it didn't do much for me at all. The monster designs pissed me off? lmao

I just wanted to see some Gundam come in and slaughter them or something.

Was it you, Xeogred, that recommended Hellsing Ultimate?

If so, thanks for that. Watched through the 8 OVAs they had on Funimation (they don't have the rest I guess) and it was some of the most fun I've had watching anime. Especially the first 4.

It's very accurate to the manga, other than being a tad condensed here and there.

Really cool series.

Maybe? Haha. Easily up there with my "guns and action" favorites, like Bebop, Trigun, Gungrave, Black Lagoon, etc.

I did like the first half a bit more myself, with more focus on Alucard himself and all.

I watched Servant x Service over the past week. Real cute. It would be great if we could see Yamagami and the others in a more serious story sometime.

Hellsing Ultimate IX and X just came out in 2012. But it's been 4 years since IV was released before we got V-VIII. So I'm optimistic that we'll get the rest of it at some point, but I'm not going to hold my breath for a release date.

I just finished watching the first season of Kaleido Star and I...really enjoyed it. Actually, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It had a bit of a slow start for me, but it grabbed me about a third of the way through. It was cute, funny, beautifully animated, and had just the right balance of comedy and drama. I'm really looking forward to the second season and the OVAs, though I've read that the first half of the second season is really, really angsty for some reason :? That may be a huge turn off for me (I can only take so much melodrama, thanks), but I guess I'll just wait and see.

Oh, and I've read that the powers that be announced at Comic Con that the new Sailor Moon anime will stream on Niconico "around January" in 10 different languages. Sweet. At least they've pinned down a probable release time. (It'd be nice to see some promo material, though.)

Anyone else watch Kill La Kill? If you haven't check it out. Very good so far, IMO!

To be fair, there's a good reason for that lengthy gap, since you had Geneon shutting down in the US and Funimation having to get all that legal stuff sorted out.

I'm still watching it and it has its ups and downs.

The animation has nice touches but is really inconsistent. For the most part the show's stylization and setting are pretty cool and surreal. The writing can be enjoyable but is sometimes too spastic for its own good (mostly for Mako's dialogue, sometimes her character hits the mark and sometimes she just feels pointlessly obnoxious).

The blatant sexualization of the main characters is... pretty pointless and distracting. It's not like Queen's Blade or anything and it doesn't bother me that much, but I feel like it shifts emphasis away from the characters' likable qualities. I was especially disappointed with the antagonist's sexualization because I REALLY like her character and persona.

I will say though, for Studio Trigger's first shot at a big project it's not bad. The lack of funding isn't surprising in that context and I can imagine that they just sexed it up to give it more basic appeal and play things safe. I would also guess that we've already seen everything negative that the show is going to exhibit, so if you can get past that (or aren't bothered by it in the first place) it should be a fun ride.
