Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Is it just me, or are people in restaurants getting louder and louder these days? And not just chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings, but fine dining restaurants. Perhaps it is just people are getting louder in general.

oooh boy. Don't ever go to southern Europe mate. A restaurant is the same as a tavern when it comes to noise levels

I can attest to that. I once had to go to a restaurant while I was on a holiday in Italy with my parents. Never again. The noise was deafening, I couldn't hear my mp3 player on my earplugs because of how noisy it was in there. And it was a classy place, no drunks or anything. Never had that problem in Greece though, but I guess that's because all the restaurants there were filled with tourists rather than locals unlike in Rome/Italy

You listen to an mp3 player in a classy restaurant? Or in any restaurant period?Menegrothx wrote:The noise was deafening, I couldn't hear my mp3 player on my earplugs because of how noisy it was in there. And it was a classy place...
Weird. That's as bad as shouting in a joint.

If I recall the battery of PSP had run out so that's about the only thing I could do to pass time at the moment. And I'm not one of those people who listens to music so loud that people around me can hear it so I don't agree with that statement, not that it would've mattered any place in that place, as it was so noisy you couldn't have heard it anyways

Whenever people say "why don't you just emulate?", I never really have a good answer. It really makes me think about why I don't just emulate? I mean I would save a TON of money but whenever I do emulate I no longer have the drive to play the game. I feel like a big part of gaming (for me at least) is buying the game itself.
Other than being a collector, what reason do you have for buying hard copies of retro games? By retro I mean games that can easily be emulated. I've been wanting to ask this for a while.

I think for me it's more of a matter of having a "legit" copy. I can't really enjoy an album until I actually own it on CD or something for example, even if in either case I'm still ultimately listening to mp3s, whether I rip them myself or not. Same thing with movies and tv shows, and naturally, games.
I'm a tad apprehensive about digital media, but I have bought games digitally (both current and retro) and I don't really play them any more or less than any of my physical games, and it doesn't really "feel" any different when I do.
