Whoa, he was only 66. No cause of death has been released.

Yeah, quite sad. I mentioned this earlier today to folks on Facebook, but I read pretty much all of his first decade or so of books (some a few times) in middle school and high school - his writing was a tremendous influence on me. The films, games, and TV shows associated with his "brand" have been largely hit and miss, but as a writer of well-researched and gripping military/political fiction, he had no equal.

I stopped reading his stuff after "Rainbow Six" in large part because a lot of it was co-authored and I questioned his level of involvement, is any of it worth reading through? I suppose "The Bear and The Dragon" would probably be good...

The Bear and The Dragon was alright. Teeth of the Tiger felt like it was starting to get a little too far away from the stuff that made the earlier books good. I have the one after Teeth of the Tiger but haven't read it yet.

Yeah my arc with his stuff sounds similar to Dave's, read him a lot in middle to high school. But haven't really read much since Rainbow Six. I've loved a lot of the games with his name on the box, especially Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. I'm also really looking forward to The Division.

Sad news.

Clancy was famous during the Crichton era when sub-par made for Hollywood thrillers were the rage. He was great at what he did, but I was never a fan.

That said, he had thousands of die-hard fans.

I only liked one of his books TBH... Red Storm Rising. That doesn't detract from the countless hours of fun I've had playing the games his books inspired though. Rainbow Six Patriots will feel a little odd being the first Tom Clancy game to be released after his death.
