I don't think there is anything wrong with getting chummy with a professor per se (especially over time, and/or after several courses with the professor), but it just seems so awkward/lame when older students act like they are entitled to depreciate the student-instructor relationship just because the age gap is smaller with them than it is the rest of the class.

I dunno though, this is just my feeling on it based on nothing but personal exposure. It would be interesting to hear if you had any thoughts on how older students act towards you vs younger ones.

It is different when you have a real interest in the material and you talk to them about the material. It just gets weird when you start asking them personal questions, try to bring up topics unrelated to the class, follow the teachers around in the hallways and just chat. It seems awkward for the teacher and just a nuisance. If the teacher is receptive to it, I guess it is fine. If that banter interrupts class, I get annoyed.

When I use to go to charter school all the other students and I use to talk w/ our teachers kind of like friends. The conversation could be from crazy parties to science. The school was a lot more liberal than traditional school. We even called our teachers by their first names, which was odd at first.

:D : Just did a count. I'm up to 135 pages so far in the book. Single-spaced in Times 12. Egads. Granted, the bulk of it is transcribed/edited interviews, but there's still a lot of stuff to read here. This is now larger than my dissertation, in terms of sheer page count.

:( : Deadline for the first full draft is due to the publisher by Monday, and I think I probably need another 20 (single spaced) pages + bibliography to get everything in there that I want. And I have a ton of other things to do between now and then. So yay.

You do it to yourself, you do. And that's what really hurts.

You do it to yourself, just you. You and no-one else.

You know, the god damn PS3 is the only system I've ever had problems with.

Anybody ever replace the hard drive in their fucking PS3? Will this one work for that purpose?

:? Somebody was fired yesterday for personal browsing while on the clock. Guess this is a new shift in policies, and I probably won't be on much anymore. Not like I contributed much anyway and annoy most of you guys when I try to...

:D Getting additional training tonight. Not "Toss you in a fire" training, but sit in a class training. This may help out a lot.

:D I just spoke with my Mother and Father, and her heart surgery was a success and she is going to be released today. It's been one hell of a stressful week, so this is great news. Hopefully this will be the end of her heart issues.

Frown: My pup woke me up at 2am to go out. And then again at 4am this morning. I don't fall back asleep easily, so a pretty rough night's sleep. Plus my wife didn't find the humor of me asking her if she wanted to get freaky at 4:30am.
