Beegus has everyone in here gone crazy? :|
I was always crazy. Just that sort of subtle sort of crazy that passes out on the floor.

In all seriousness, I feel a lot better now. My head still hurts a fair bit though. (Forgot to mention the whole hitting it on the floor after passing out huh?)

So you are also part of the old guard with the lifetime certs. I never got to do Linux but we touched upon all the other OSes available at the time. The textbook we got proudly displayed a Pentium III processor so I was a part of that awkward period  The reason I took the class was because I did a PC Maintenance class in college and was really interested in doing more. The course built upon all that and I learned so much from it. It was fun if not only just for the experience, it was almost like a screenplay with all the different characters we had in the class
Crazy how similar our experience was. Had a blast, and if I could do it all over again, I would. Wish I could find a training class like that for my LPIC 1 and 2. Instead I have to rely on self-taught knowledge and some crappy prep books.

:( This job expects far too much from me. Don't they realize how lazy I am?

:D My daughter played Mega Man today. She actually figured out how to run and jump over obstacles. She still doesn't have the shooting down yet, but for a 2 year old she's doing great.

About this whole math debacle, a friend of mine was just telling me about a class he recently finished for his math major that basically was centered around the idea that since equivelancy becomes meaningless at great distances after the decimal point, that two different numbers can be equal, and thus become meaningless unless used at abstract concepts. In short, 1.999999(5 billion more nines)9 = 2.

The whole 0.999... = 1 thing... yeah there's a TON of stuff written about that:

Mathematically? Yes. In practical sciences? No.

"2" indicates an imprecise measurement where you can't get a clear reading on the decimals. 2.00000000 means you can confidently say those decimals are 0.

On the crazy math conversation, take the speed of light for example. It is a set, whole, exact number even though it really isn't. Why? It has a lot to do with the Meter measurement. The meter is defined in relation to the speed of light. If it is constantly changing, so too is the meter and the definition of a meter in every textbook, making it be an enormous pain in the ass.

So they all came to the agreement of what the speed of light is, which happens to be 299,792,458 m/s exactly.

:? - A/C system seems to have a leak, most likely in the A coil according to the fella who recently filled it with freon. And on top of that, my system is the old type that is not "environmentally friendly". It'll be around $5,000 to get everything replaced. (That includes a new furnace, outside A/C unit, lines, etc.)

:D - Thankfully, cool weather is already starting to hit here. Hopefully I can put this off replacing it until next spring, maybe use the next tax return to get a new system or something.

There was a day where I would fully flip out about something like this. After all the crap we went through last year, I am proud to say that I am able to just laugh at stuff like this now. You just have to learn how to cope with the inevitable. Things will break. Things will need replaced with money you don't have. Oh the joys of being a homeowner.

Hey! Another fellow member with A/C woes. Maybe I can help you save coin.

First. know your stuff. Know the difference between an "evap" and "con". Know the price of freon in your area.

Shop around. $5k is toooo pricey. We got the whole shebang for a bit over $4000. Indoor unit on the third floor replaced (which is HUGE), outdoor unit replaced with a Trane unit, 10 year warranty on all parts, 1 year of free labor and freon.

Buying a new AC unit is about negotiation. I saved close to one thousand dollars by getting estimates from different companies. You also have bonus leverage with "Listen, I have a young child, my wife is in school...etc. Not giving you a sob story, just saying that I need the best service at the best price".

And don't be shy. Tell them "I'm willing to offer you $4,000 if you do the job right, and can guarantee you'll have my and my associates business for life". It might sound corny, but it works. Don't let them give you a price, you give them one. Plus, make sure you get decent equipment (highly suggest Trane) and a ten year warranty.

Best of luck.
