I know some people that stay away from greatest hits, cause they like to have the, "I played it before it was huge" attitude. Even though the greatest hits is out...

It even irks me that there are two major types of Genesis cases in addition to misc third-party cases
I dont mind the two different types of Genesis cases. What i REALLY hate are the cardboard cases. I try and I try, OH how I try to take care of them...its just inevitable that theyll get torn apart though.
Nintendo was the worst for that. I have no boxes for any of my Snes or N64 stuff. They didnt get it right until gamecube...Console leaders my ass.
To me, that stupid Greatest Hits label is like having an ugly sticker on your game. It's the same thing.
Plus, I think if you're a serious collector you want to own the original release because the original release is the one that really mattered. It's because of lots of people buying the original release that a greatest hits version was even possible
It's the same reason I often like to buy the original version of any game that had lots of ports. Sure, I like buying whichever version is the definitive one, but I want the original too because it's the classic version, the one that got the game noticed in the first place
I'm happy to say that I own the classic, black label PS1 Castlevania:Symphony of the Night that originally brought the game to fame, as well as the "definitive"Castlevania:Dracula X Chronicles version. As a collector, I had to have both, but we collectors are crazy and for the average gamer ANY version of a game is just fine. Some people are even content just to emulate

I think that attitude is much more prevelant than most people would admit. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it is the most prevelant reason people choose the originals over the GH versions.
If you look at any kind of collecting, the first editions are almost ALWAYS more desireable than later versions.
You underestimated the OCD of some gamers. Seriously.... that green label stares at you from the shelf.... taunting you..... those dirty green greatest hits....
Nothing I can do about the Playstation greatest hits games, as I got all those when i was a kid and I'm not going to buy all those games again, but the two different styles of Dreamcast cases really really bug me.
