Is PS1 Component better than RGB SCART?
Is PS1 Component better than RGB SCART?
I've heard you can modify a PS2 Component cable to have the PS1 do Component, but is it better than or can it support RGB? And what about RGB SCART to Component?

The PS1 doesn't output component video.

Yes, but I've heard you can modify an off-brand PS2 Component cable to get component out of it.ApolloBoy wrote:The PS1 doesn't output component video.

The PS1 console does not output Component signals. Full stop.BitFaced wrote:Yes, but I've heard you can modify an off-brand PS2 Component cable to get component out of it.ApolloBoy wrote:The PS1 doesn't output component video.

There is no Y Pb Pr there. If you use a Component cable meant for a PS2/3 (here in the US at least) you'll just get the luma, so you'll have a black and white image as I recall.

I tried an official PS3 component cable with my PS1. I got 15 KHz RGsB.
If you can get a nice sync-on-green monitor, that will be ideal quality for your PS1. If you want component on PS1 games, though, you can get an RGB->Component transcoder, or just use a PS2 or PS3.

Have you tested that? RGsB doesn't sound right to me.
Shouldn't a component cable on PS1 be red/green/blue, without sync?

Nope. It's definitely sync on green. Sony really liked that for some reason.

That needs some documentation. Links to a service manual or anything?
You're either saying PS1 has a pin that when grounded, moves sync over to green... Or the cable merges them together.

Re: Is PS1 Component better than RGB SCART?
I have no idea how it happens, just that it does. It's well-known the PS2 supportsdemands sync-on-green, and I think the PSX does the same.
For clarification, I have only tried this with official PS3 component cables on the 5501 US PlayStation. I've had several PlayStations over the years, but I've always ended up with this version for some reason.

PS1 doesn't output 480p or greater.
Which on PS2 is, at least normally, required to get sync on green.
