Food in Video Games

Post by Luke »

Some games have flying orbs as power-ups, some have bananas. Of course the cherries in Pac-Man come to mind to any gamer but what games really focus on food as a power-up? Or, what food(s) stand out in your favorite games?

DKC is all about the 4011.

Tekken Force's "Chicken" voice over is one of the best sound effects ever.

"Pizza time!"

Bone in Round roast seems to be a staple power up in b'mups including Final Fight, the SORage series, Golden Axe series, etc.

In the Star Ocean games, each party member has a favorite food. Once you figure it out, eating that food will give them full HP and MP. They have pretty good taste, except the fruit sandwich. What is that?

SO2:
Claude = Steak
Rena = Shortcake
Celine = Baby Rabbit Risotto
Opera = Apple Cider (lol covering up the alcohol)
Ernest = Hassaku Tea (lol covering up the alcohol)
Ashton = Hamburger
Leon = Carrot Juice
Dias = Chicken Skewers
Precis = Chocolate Crepes
Bowman = Daikon Miso Soup
Noel = Big Tuna
Chisato = Fruit Sandwich
Tsun tsun dere tsun dere tsun tsun~ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . UPDATED trade list

How about the weirdness of characters eating food out of garbage cans in Final Fight? Maybe they're a bunch of street-fighting bums?

I always wonder about the meat that you find in the walls of Dracula's castle (Castlevania). I would think it would be rotten and gross from all the dust and rubble that fell on it, but that meat is surprisingly nutritious.

I loved cooking in Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The animations made the food look so delicious, and they always made me want to go out for Japanese.

Okay I'll bite. :D

How about 5200 and Arcade Food Fight? Throw food at the Chefs and eat the treat at the end. Waiting for someone to mention a certain Hamburger game.

My wife was watching me play that the other day. The cooking animations were her favorite part of the game.

Also, there's no way we can talk about food in games without mentioning this NES gem:

So, why do you blow a snowman's head off in that game?
