I'm curious how many people are buying a next gen console who have enormous backlogs of games for older systems they haven't even touched...

I'm in that camp, and worse yet I'll probably end up getting both systems.

I am ashamed.....

Definitely in that camp. However, I tend to look at my collection as a library, focused on putting things I may want to play at arm's length, not a queue that I have to work through.

This is how I look at my collection as well. I go through all sorts of phases and play what I am in the mood to play. I know that come November, I will be in the mood to play the PS4 and Xbone, particularly because console launches for me infuse a renewed excitement for gaming. The same applies to finding an older game that I never knew about or played.

My problem with backlogs is that I wait so long to play a game, that its better bigger sequel comes out and I am no longer sure if I should play the original or its sequel. This is currently happening with GTA4-5 , Uncharted, and Fable

Not me. I learned when I was twelve years old that buying a console at launch isn't a smart purchase. For one, too darned expensive. Secondly, after all the rrod nonsense I'd rather purchase a console that's had the kinks worked out.

Plus, I'm an odd lot. If you look at the games I've beaten this year you can see that I'm more into older games.

It is very tempting to buy the ps4 especially that its price is close to a ps3 today, smaller in size, and is next generation console. I feel the same especially when I know all the games I want are on the ps3

I've never understood the backlog thing. Yes, I do have a handful of games that I have yet to beat. If I don't play them in favor of another game, I've lost nothing. They'll still be there to play whenever I feel like it.

The moment I turn my games into a task that must be completed is the moment I stop playing games.

And on the subject, I'm not buying either the PS4 or the X1 at launch. I'm waiting for more releases, and a price drop in the latter case.
