that seems to be my problem. I can't get them up fast enough. Right now I have two satellite uplinks but still no satellites available? Why? What am I doing wrong? I'm guessing I don't have enough scientists or engineers? But I need to do alien abductions to get more of them right?
You build satellites in the workshop iirc. Each workshop will provide you with 5 engineers, and additionally you'll want to do the early abductions focused on getting engineers, all other things being equal (if a country would go in the red, you do their mission if you won't be able to put up a satellite by month's end).

Council missions will also provide you with engineers as one of their random bonuses, and the more satellites you get in countries the more scientists and engineers you get, so once you get past the initial stage of the game you shouldn't be hurting for them.

Also, from a panic management standpoint, don't bother launching satellites until the last day of the month. That way you can wait until you see which countries need the panic management the most.

Started playing this again on 360 this weekend. Didn't really grab me the first time, I played only a few missions into the tutorial. This time I am several missions past the tutorial and am really digging it. Noise survived his first mission last night and got promoted, it's probably the handle bar mustache I gave him. ;)

Wait wait wait, you can choose how your characters look? I'm so getting back into this game. Can you edit the height too because I just wouldn't feel right with noise on my squad if he was the same height as everyone. Noise would have to be the height of some cover or it would just ruin the immersion of it for me.

lol, that's awesome Stark.

I stopped playing a couple weeks back cuz I got into Half-Life 2, but you guys are kind of making me want to load it back up.

I totally want to do the same thing, basically making everyone on my squad a RB member.

I think you're a Mexican sniper, which is awesome. I'll post a pic if I can snap one later tonight.

XCOM Enemy Within (expansion) coming later this year to PC, Mac, PS3, 360. It will get a physical release via a special edition Enemy Unknown re-release. Oddly, I feel like I'd be more prone to buy it if it were a stand-alone release (like they did for Undead Redemption for instance) than I am to buy a 2nd copy of the game.

The physical release is console only, due to the fact that consoles don't really support the notion of an expansion pack like how PCs do.

I keep refreshing Steam but there's no preorder link yet. When it lands I'm going to try an Impossible Ironman playthrough.

That would be super impressive. I'm playing on baby mode right now.

I've looked into things, and it seems the big difference between Classic and Impossible is that Impossible makes your first month a living hell. Coincidentally, properly executing your first month is the key to success in Ironman; if you do it properly you can generally take things into the end game even if you have a catastrophic loss later (I lost my fully trained squad including a couple Colonels in one mission, with only a single Sergeant surviving and was able to rebuild).
