Everyone on my street came together though and we cooked over open fires and played music with old instruments that had been collecting dust and made the best of it. The National Guard dropped MREs (the things the troops eat.) out of helicopters and watching that was pretty cool.

We didn't have flooding in my area too bad, most of it was tornadoes and wind damage. Trees were down everywhere, and we couldn't even leave our neighborhood for the first week.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. Not something I would ever want to go through again, but not something that brings me down when I look back on my own experience. I wish I could say the same for everyone though.
Well, I hope it's the same for me. :P What made you want to be a mortician?

One of those mini essays I like to write. I have to say though, I am a bit flattered. I don't think I'm that interesting of a person.
I like to help people, and I've always been curious about death and what happens to the body once it happens. I would stay up whole nights researching the history of embalming, death ceremonies of various religions, methods of preserving bodies, etc. I would always freak Jinx out when I found something. "Look at this, it's so interesting!" "No thanks. Just tell me, I don't wanna see." is a conversation that occurred more than a few times.

When I went to funerals, I would always wonder how they got my loved one to look like they were sleeping when the last time I saw them they were obviously sick. The funeral directors were always so nice and seemed to know what to say to put my mourning family at ease. This was something that I've always tried to do even since I was a little kid. If someone around me is distressed, I want to make them feel better. I can turn off any emotion I feel about the situation and focus completely on the person/matter at hand, and once the situation is over then I break down. It's happened a few times in my family, and finally when I realized that Houston had a Mortuary Science college (I found it by looking at a Funeral Service Museum, which is connected to the school.) and Jinx suggested that I go. I thought about it for a while, did some more research, and decided to give it a try. At the risk of sounding cheesy, it just feels like what I was meant to do.

Another reason, and this isn't why I decided to go but does play a role in it, is because I do have an Aunt that is dying of Cancer. So many people in my family scramble and have no clue what to do in the event of a loved one's death, even when we know it's coming soon. I don't live near my family, so I can't take care of her now, but I know that when the time comes I can help the family and answer any of the questions they have that they don't feel comfortable asking a stranger.

My family also owns a Cemetery, and I will learn the laws pertaining to final resting places as well. My training will help my family to better manage the land and abide by the laws. I will inherit a third of it from my Father, so I want to be prepared to handle that situation when the time comes.

I'm always interested in learning about peoples callings as I don't really have one quite yet. I don't really believe in destiny so it's quite interesting learning how people perceive their calling. Not that i'm a sociopath but I've never really wanted to help people or change the world. I guess it depends on your personality. I am quite an oxymoron if you will. I want to make a great salary (90k-100k) but don't really want to go to college. I love to make money but don't necessarily want to be a businessman. :P

Six months ago, I had no clue what I wanted to do. I usually pick something, but a few weeks later I become less interested then just forget about it. The difference with this career path is that it combines personality traits and personal interest, so this is why I feel like it fits me. I can't think of any part of this that isn't rewarding, even though it will be emotionally straining. I've watched a few interviews of Funeral Directors, and in every single one they all said something along the lines of "The moment you don't go home or pull your car to side of the road and have a good cry is the moment you should leave the field."

I kinda stopped looking, and focused on what I thought was interesting and it lead me to this. I don't have the pressure of having to find a job right now though. Finally not being pressured to make money has allowed me to really find out what I want to do. (I planned to go back to work anyway, being a stay at home mom is great but not for me.)

Smile: The quality of this picture will drive Hobie crazy, but here it is:

Since it was my wife's first day back at work I bought her a bouquet of flowers, the book Green Eggs & Ham (with a note from yours truly on the inside cover), and prepared Green egg and ham for her. Nice night.

My kids are all about playing the homemade MAME arcade machine (Smile), but not the games. They just like feeding it quarters. Over and over again. (Frown)

 People who add me from /r/tf2trade don't check my backapck. I had a thread listing weapons and some vintage weapons, and a guy adds me asking about cheap stranges. I told him I think that they were Killing Gloves of Boxing but I wasn't sure so he sends me a trade. They were some Strange Fists of Steel and he got mad, and as soon as I asked if he even looked at my backpack before hand, he went offline.
(Shameless self plug for my backpack, trade and add me: http://steamcommunity.com/id/samuraimegas/inventory )
