Re: The Wrestling Thread
...so I think Daniel Bryan just single handedly sold a million SummerSlam buys.
Re: The Wrestling Thread
I have not checked this thread in a while. How is TNA doing?
Last I heard they stopped trying to push for the older guys like Sting and Hogan and gave place for the newer "talents" . IMHO today's wrestlers do not hold to the status/character of wrestlers from 80s/90s . I do not know of any new wrestlers (2002-->) that is on the level of Hogan, Macho, Sting, Flair, Austin...etc .

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Technically Cena would fit this description (TV debut - 2002) - As much as I hate his character, he's won, defended, and regained the strap more times than I'd like to give 'creative' credit in his 11 year career.RCBH928 wrote:I do not know of any new wrestlers (2002-->) that is on the level of Hogan, Macho, Sting, Flair, Austin...etc .

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Wow! Awesome Summerslam! Punk/Lesnar was great and The Beast went over as he damn well should have, but Punk looked strong throughout the match.
Cena/Bryan was easily the match of the night...and that's saying something after Punk/Lesnar. Bryan KICKED CENA'S ASS! Cena was on the defensive the entire match. It looked he HE was the challenger. The finish was great. The entire arena blew the roof off the place doing yes chants as Bryan lined Cena up and kicked him right in the head for the 3 count. The crowd might as well have been chanting, "FINISH HIM!" It was a decisive victory.
Oh, but wait. Out comes Orton with the briefcase, but he changes his mind and turns to leave...right before Hunter pedigrees bryan! Cash in, Orton new champ. Hunter/Orton celebrate. Is it Evolution all over again? Looks like both Orton and HHH just went heel

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Summer Slam 2004 - Orton wins over Benoit and becomes youngest WWE World Champion. On RAW the next night, Orton is hoisted in the air in "celebration" of his win - only to be given a 'thumbs down' by HHH and kicked out of Evolution. HHH goes on to defeat Orton for the title at Unforgiven the following month.Gamerforlife wrote:Orton new champ. Hunter/Orton celebrate. Is it Evolution all over again? Nahhh - I'm sure none of this is connected............

Daniel Bryan and CM Punk are getting there. (un)Coincidentally, both are the only two current guys who wrestled for years in indies before joining WWE. Or rather, the only indy guys who tolerated all the BS of the "big leagues" long enough.RCBH928 wrote:I have not checked this thread in a while. How is TNA doing?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
It felt like Bryan was celebrating for a good five minutes before Orton's music hit. They really let that feel good moment linger for as long as possible. I was actually starting to believe that Bryan was really leaving Summerslam as champ
Well played WWE.
I liked Cena's performance. The facial expressions he did throughout the match told a good story. You could tell he was worried throughout the match. The crowd booing him and cheering Bryan seemed to take the wind out of his sails a bit, even though that sort of thing usually doesn't phase him. And Bryan's dogged persistence and aggressiveness throughout the match actually brought out a rather desperate look on Cena's face a few times. He actually ROLLED OUT OF THE RING at one point. You NEVER see faces do that unless they really feel outmatched. Cena really put Daniel Bryan over. I give him props for that. WWE has been pushing Bryan HARD.
Oh, and Del Rio/Christian was a great match too, if anyone cares LOL. I was actually hoping for a Christian win but I knew it wasn't going to happen

Re: The Wrestling Thread
One really interesting thing about Hunter turning heel on Bryan is that Michaels was at Summerslam talking about how Bryan was his student and that he believed he was going to beat Cena for the title.
How will HBK feel about Triple H screwing over his student on his big night?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Damn I miss Kurt Angle so much
I still have no idea what the F WWE was thinking letting him go, and not trying hard enough to get him back. I know he wanted a break for his health, and wants to help TNA grow but damn. If a guy with his skills needs a break to recover his health, you give him one, he's a one in a million. Actually one of a kind really. NO ONE else has that kind of goofy/dorky "charm" and connection with the audience he had in 1999-2004. It's not like you'll find a replacement. Then again when I think of Kurt Angle between 2005-2006, I can't honestly remember all that much, apart from ECW One Night Stand 2006 where he was gold. "YOUR MOTHER TAUGHT ME HOW"
