GitS is not heavy on nudity, you're fine. It is very heavy on sexuality though, as the main character is pretty much half nekkid the entire time.

My brother used to watch it at about my age. I should be fine i guess.

If you're worried about it, just watch Stand Alone Complex first. It's a prequel/alternate universe/whatever, you won't miss anything.

Well, I was wondering if it was constant nudity or something like that which would be bad if a parent walked in. As for the movie, I'll watch when I'm home alone.

GiTS: SAC was on TV. It doesn't really have nudity. The movie does, but it's non-sexual, and that's the point.

Some other shorter action-oriented anime might be Black Lagoon (sorta like Bebop, but modern-day pirates), Darker than Black, the "girls with guns" trilogy (Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja), Kurozuka, maybe the short Blade of the Immortal series...if you want absolutely unapologetic gore, guns, and girls, High School of the Dead.

Some others to look at and see if they might interest you could be Book of Bantorra, Bounen no Xamdou, the Fate series, and maybe Durarara! (or however they want to spell Drrrrr).

The nudity in GitS is done more to be uncomfortable than to be erotic. Remember the tank fight?

I'd check out Samurai Champloo (by the guy who did Bebop), Baccano!, and Gunbuster/Diebuster if you're after some good action.

My take is more that it's used to illustrate Major Kusanagi's detachment from her body.

Yeah that was the idea, it's not the Major's *real* body so she doesn't care about it. Hence much of the nudity in the film being somewhat uncomfortable.
