Mortal Kombat rumors 1993

Post by dtrack »

This came up in this thread the first place:
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 96#p626096
And got PMs ppl are interested in the files so here are.

Now everyone knows the rumors weren't true but the other question is who started to spread rumors? As i have stated there are 2 theories. One is the common and widely accepted explanation that fans started to spread the gossip, then devs "listened" then implemented ideas in new installment. At that time internet was less used but BBSes were fairly common place to spread gaming and other textfiles (there is a documentary on BBS http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460402/ and a related website for those aren't familiar). Email addresses was also very different, most of the mailboxes were at university sites. What if developers did spread these rumors to pump up the popularity of the games. After all, who would find out even the "basic" special moves and finishing moves without developers spreading somewhere? Console releases often contained most of them in the manual but gamers didn't get manuals in the arcade, right? And there are other indications this might be true such as "Kano transformations" counter in the diagnostics menu of the cabinet.
As big fan of the game i have collected everything and still have those textfiles. I have searched the web but seems they aren't hosted anywhere. They contain author's name, email addresses and so on. I'm uploading the files so everyone can take a look and maybe we will find out something that could warrant this theory.
