Did you know that one dude made it over 5 years in his spare time? I thought it was a pretty damn fine game without knowing that but after finding it out, it seemed even more impressive.

Yep, quite impressive.

I'm gonna bump this thread instead of making a new one.

I just got Cave Story for WiiWare, I haven't played it before. Of course, I now know how awesome it is!

I love games that use the sideways remote, but this is the first game ever that the original Classic Controller (not the Pro) is my first choice. I love the sideways remote, but using A and B to cycle your weapons isn't optimal. You have to sacrifice having your thumb on the D pad to cycle weapons, which can get hairy at times. Also, I'm always accidentally hitting the B button when I don't want to. That can also get hairy. The Classic Controller Pro is great, and I love it for Goldeneye and Xenoblade, but not so much for Cave Story. The reason being is the two shoulder buttons on each side, I found that I'll sometimes hit the wrong one which has no function. That's really hard to do with the original Classic Controller. And since you're not using the thumbsticks, the original Classic Controller is still good. And the original Classic Controller doesn't have those prongs, which makes it feel more like the controller you should be using for such a game.

I knew that the question marks on the select screen were modes you can unlock in Story Mode, and I figured at least one of them would unlock after beating the game. Boy, was I wrong! That's OK, I wanted an excuse to play through it again anyway.

There's probably an ending guide on gamefaqs if you'd like to look up how to get there.

Oh, and Hell is the hardest level. Seriously. Save those Life Pots for the final boss!

So I found this guide: http://www.gamespot.com/cave-story/foru ... -45663008/

I plan to play through the game again using that guide to get to hell. I've read that playing Hell and beating the game that way unlocks Boss Rush Mode and Sanctuary Time Attack. But I'm still a little confused...

How do you unlock Curly Story Mode in the WiiWare version?

There's like 5 different answers on the net. Under the cheat section on GameFAQs, it says to defeat Curly in Story Mode. But didn't I do that having played through the game? If that's true then it should be unlocked, but it isn't. A YouTube video showed where to find Curly's panties and that possessing them unlocks Curly mode. Well, what the hell are you suppose to do in the WiiWare version to unlock Curly mode?

I've heard that its good, but you're basically better off with any other version. I do believe it's on DSiWare in the states, so if you want Cave Story on the go that might be the better (and cheaper) option.

I have the one before the cart was released. Can't beat the last boss!

Even though I got this game on mac (the freeware one), WiiWare and DSiWare, I got the 3DS version. It's pretty much the same game, but with nicer graphics and pretty 3D effects. It's the same game nonetheless. Get it if you can find it cheap, or get it at any price anyway if you're a fan.

I'm def interested in giving the 3DS port a go. I played it on PC a couple years back and loved it... until I got to the final boss. Never finished.
