Yeah I just have a simple spreadsheet in Excel. Or could use Openoffice as well. Separate pages for systems. I actually uploaded the empty one before when someone asked this question.

My phone is a Windows based one, so there's a mini version of Excel on it. Would suck to be entering data on the go, but it's fine to just check the list quick. If one had a gmail account and internet available on their phone or a tablet, they could use google docs or something too. Obviously you could log into backloggery too, but I'm just using a spreadsheet. Simple and fast loading.

That's really cool of you to share the spreadsheet. I started doing a spreadsheet last week. I used open office to make it and Polaris office to view it from an android device. It's a bit cluncky with the phone trying to dim rotate or lock as I go through game racks though.

That's why I'm interested in everyone's method of keeping track. Nothing I've tried seems to be a perfect hit yet.

I don't have a smarty phone.

I tried to print a list of my collection before going to PAX East. Big mistake - it was gonna be like 50 pages.

I just use notepad on my PC

Its not the greatest, but it works.

When I get extra copies, I put +1 or +2

I need to go through my stuff again to put whether boxed/case or not.

Mostly for my disc based games since I have very few Boxed cartridge games.

I have fairly good memory when it comes to games

I have to do this one day since the bulk of my collection is in storage.

I do believe I have about 96% of my collection in various notepad files. Some doubles and triples arent on this list though.

Lol...actually notepad is what I use for my lists. I don't have word because my copy of word got lost after a few crashes on this pc over the years...and I do use those "free" fake office programs but I really dislike them..notepad is just simple.

Some pretty interesting collecting tips and pointers here so far, as for me I don't specifically look for any title and usually just end up buying something if I find a nice item at a retro game store. There are about 5-6 retro game stores in my metro area (some as close as 5-10 min away others 25-30) so every once in awhile ill just pop in and hope to find something good. I also do buy a lot off classified postings but usually just type in something general like SNES or dreamcast in the search and just check out the posts.

As for judging the value or rarity of a game, I have always been good at judging a games value, but I tend to look at ebay to see how much a game is going for with active bids on it..gives a good idea of what people are willing to pay for a game instead of seeing a bunch of overpriced listings with no bids.

And lastly, at video game stores if you think a game is overpriced and will probably stay on the shelf collecting dust, don't be scared to bargain, occasionally I'll thrown in a "hey cut 25-30 bucks off that and I will take it off your hands right now", the worst that can happen is they say "sorry man I can't."

Ex. Saw a copy of shining the holy ark at a store for $120, had seen it had been there for a few weeks, got it for $85 my next visit

Spreadsheet of what I have and whether they're cart/manual/case and such, then a text file of wants. I finally put the spreadsheet on my phone so that I could double check for manuals after buying ones I didn't need twice.

How do you make the spreadsheet? Excel? And how do you put it on your phone?

I have an iPhone, so I use Apple Numbers seamlessly. It keeps the spreadsheet updated on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac mini automatically.
