I've just been told I dislike popular games just to be different!

All I need now is one guy telling me I only like old games because of nostalgia and my life will be complete.

Been there.

Russ: "The only reason you don't like Halo is because you try to be different. You never like anything popular".

Me: "You mean like Star Wars, The Simpsons, the Cosby show, local sports teams, Natalie Portman, Grand theft auto, Sonic, and Mario games? Yup, totally hung up on myself".

There's no real counter-culture thought process going on in my noggin. I simply don't care for Halo. I know it's a great game; Sleek, great controls, high replay value, solid sound, and it redefined the fps and online console multiplayer games. But I'd rather play something else.

Honestly after the first Halo, all of the other games have been sub-par. Well, Fall of Reach wasn't bad. But I think I liked that one because I'd read the book first and had an appreciation for that planet and it's backstory.

But so far, nothing's been able to capture the same awe and wonder as the original Halo. And I'm a Halo fan.

I played the campaign mode on PC and beat it, but was bored while doing so. There are only like what, five different style of enemies in the entire game and four different weapons?

Plus, I found the multiplayer to be boring. I was all over Counter Strike at the time and Halo's multiplayer did nothing for me.

But again, Halo is an incredibly well made game.

Haha, it needs to be a honest attempt for it to work

It's also strange because when I criticize an unknown game I get the same reaction. :?

Yeah I think it was pretty barebones compared to what's out now. I liked multiplayer on a few networked Xboxes. I played the MP on the PC and it just wasn't as fun.

I really like the story of Halo though, the mythos is what interests/ed me. The books (the ones I've read, that is) are REALLY good and definitely help the game be more interesting, even after the fact. The first one is the Fall of Reach which sets up the entire story and shows you the Master Chief's origin. The game just expounds on what happens at the same time, just in another part of the planet.

I haven't read any of the ForeRunner sets of books so I can't comment on em, but I do like the Spartan program, what the kids had to go through to become what they are, the Covenant and their reason for hating humanity, the origin of the current evolution of mankind, etc. It's cool sci-fi.

Halo 4 basically starts another saga that is just not as interesting as the first one. Playing through H4 was confusing to me. I didn't know who the villain was until later on.

I just realized I haven't seen Ack around here in awhile. Does anyone know what happened to him? Is he alright?
