I don't understand why the Amiga CD32 controller is so hated - I like it quite a bit.

The shoulder and D-pad buttons feel a bit off, but it's not bad and the shape of the pad isn't uncomfortable or anything imo (except the start button). The Atari Jaguar pad, atleast the pro version, is really underrated imo.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I don't understand why the Amiga CD32 controller is so hated - I like it quite a bit.
Even though there's FPS and other games on the CD32 that use more than 2 buttons, it's a shame developers really didn't utilize the game pad very well. A lot of SHMUPs, platformers etc that only use 1/2 buttons primarily and strategy/adventure/RPG games that are really meant to be played with a mouse. There's some impressive computer generated "photorealistic" visuals on some games, but I feel that besides the game pad, developers also failed to utilize the power of the machine. With all the half assed ports of floppy disk games, the game library didn't feel like next gen the same way 3DO did. Though there are some good and CD-improved games on the console.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I like the overall shape of the controller. The layout reminds me a bit of the SNES controller, minus the select button. The buttons do feel "soft" though, which takes some getting used to.
Speaking of Commodore, Ghosts n Goblins apparently had a Commodore 16 / Plus/4 port. Looks pretty rough...

I've been playing Cave Story and I can't say I'm liking it. The art direction is dull, without enough uniqueness or charm and the level design is annoying rather than challenging or annoying. It seems the designer wants to create a sense of exploration through it but all he managed to do so far is getting me killed because I took the wrong path.

Such a classic. I loved it sooo much. But then, I usually love Metroidvania style gameplay. Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are 2 of my all-time favorite games, so I might be a bit partial.General_Norris wrote:I've been playing Cave Story and I can't say I'm liking it. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Been considering perhaps moving a bit towards the digital realm in terms of retro gaming. Figure I'd save a lot of money that way and largely have the same experience when it comes to actually playing them.
I'm not talking about stopping collecting games in general of course, just basically considering focusing my physical collecting on games that aren't available for cheaper elsewhere. Put more money into Saturn games instead of buying overpriced easily available classics on the SNES or something for example.
I mean $70 for a Chrono Trigger cartridge vs $8 to just nab it on Virtual Console, that's pretty tempting. That $62 could go towards a lot of other games that might not ever see a legit re-release.

Then again, you will never be able to sell that digital copy.
And a physical copy might even go up in value and make you some money on a rainy day.

Yeah, I'm weighing the pros and cons.elmagicochrisg wrote:Then again, you will never be able to sell that digital copy.

Thing is with resale value though, I don't think games in general make a good investment. Sure that physical copy might go up in value and make me some money, but it's just as likely to go down and I'd end losing some.
Plus I generally don't buy games with the intention of selling them down the line. If I can, that's nice I suppose, but still.
It is a point worth keeping in mind, but like I also said, I wouldn't stop collecting physical completely, I'd be just focusing my collecting more on physical games that don't have (or aren't likely to have) digital re-releases. Those types of games tend to hold their value pretty well anyway.
