July 4th - What Are You Playing?

Post by Jagosaurus »

On this great United States of America Independence Day, what are you playing between BBQ, beer, & celebration?

Phantasy Star IV for me. Great game.

Happy Fourth of July all. Be safe.

I'm in the middle of my first play through of Marumasa, so I was playing that a little this morning. I'll likely be playing it some more in a bit since there's not a lot going on today.

I'm about an hour in to that Chrono Trigger interquel, Crimson Echoes/Flames of Eternity. Seems OK so far.

I plan to finish off the night with some rounds of Magical Drop 2 / SvC Chaos and Muramasa the Demon Blade.

Yup, action RPG. It's alright.

It's definitely one of the best visuals I have played on the Wii. It has a hand-drawn art style with fantastic coloring. Lots of detail, really nice backgrounds.

Gameplay wise, it's fun don't get me wrong, but I'm not totally into it. I feel like it would have been better if it was more like Symphony of the Night in regards to fighting enemies. Instead, you end up running past screen after screen with no enemies. Maybe it's different because I'm playing it on easy, I don't know. But instead of being "stopped" for a random encounter, I think it would have been better if it was like SotN. But that's just me, others seem to love the gameplay. The fighting itself IS fun.

The RPG aspects of the game are like you would expect. You have swords and one accessory that you can equip. Healing items and stuff like that. Then there's cooking and sword making. And from the little reading I've done, a good amount of game to play.

I'd say pick it up for sure. It's not expensive. You can get it new on Amazon right now for $29. It's definitely worth at least that much, and it has some of the most interesting visuals I've seen on the Wii.

Wii Muramasa used is only $8.99 at Gamestop. It really fun when played with a regular controller or even better, an Arcade Stick. The continual repeat of sidescrolling sword slashing gets to be redundant to me. However, as you mentioned its the art that makes the travel interesting. The bosses are pretty good too, with the watercolor look.
