There's one game I'm after that would be the most I spent on a game if/when I'am to buy it. Goes for average between 300-400 bucks, I have done retro shopping sprees in excess of $500 at a time before so it shouldn't be any different besides less games.

But so far the highest I paid for one game was probably $200ish Beyond Shadowgate, I also have Luciennes Quest which been selling at 200+ lately.

I'm willing to pay any price for a game if I can fit it into my budget. It's not so much what I'm "willing" to pay as it is what I "can" pay. The most I've spent on any game recently was 100-120 for stuff like Persona 4 Golden Collector's Edition and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Mark of Mastery edition. Most of this was purchased though with Bill Me Later or Amazon store card credit.

If it's Xmas time and I get a company bonus, I'm willing to pay up to 220 for a rare game that I want badly enough

Took a while for me to reply to this, sorry about that.

Anyway, thanks for the responses folks. Mj went in to a lot of detail on his thought process too, which I really appreciated, so thanks for that!

As for myself, actual sold prices for these games tend to vary a bit, particularly when it comes to auction on ebay. I generally look for prices that are lower than the average.

If its something I really want, I'm very patient about it and put in the time to find a number that works for me. If its something I can take or leave, I probably just won't buy it unless I stumble across it cheap. It really depends on the case.

I paid just a little over $2k for my Stadium Events cart. At the time that was my maximum, now it is significantly less. I'd like to get a copy of Magical Chase down the road, but at the moment its quite out of my budget. For many of the reason mrmjr stated already I have purchased several $100+ items and plan to get several more in the future.

No matter what I can't bring myself to pay more then $100 for a game, regardless of what it is....... Guess I'm just cheap like that.

The most I ever payed was around $150 for a near mint copy of PDS(now I think its in the 200-ish range). That was at least 5 or 6 years ago tho and I really can't ever see myself paying that much for a video game again.

- Console games, low triple digits would be my limit. The exception would be something like Skylanders.
- PC games, $60 is my absolute limit in one go, and that is rare. The last title I paid more than $60 for was Borderlands 2, which has been $80 so far ($60 for game and $20 for season pass). But I have logged over 1000 hours in the title so I am down to sub 8 cents an hour of enjoyment. Before that, the last game I paid full price for was the Orange Box.
- Arcade games, $500 for the cab, $300 for the PCBs. I will spend alot restoring so the $500 is a bit of a misnomer.

I cant really offer much detail on the subject as far as a title and or why. For me its a bit different....for me if its something I want or have been looking for ill find a way to make it work.

Next gen consoles I will spend well over a grand just to finally see the next gen.

Retro gaming ive owned some of the greatest games ever and ive traded for most of them. Normally how I work is I may spend say 800$ or more getting big name rare titles...after that I will trade up down and all around just to have other extremly rare games...just to say ive had them.

The only thing I can say is I will NEVER spend over 1000$ on any ONE single title.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Feel like ive posted in a thread like this before but...

The most ive paid for a current gen game was $100 for Darksiders 2 Collector's Edition, the most ive paid for a retro game was $65 for EVO Search For Eden /w Manual.

Honestly, i wait till current gen releases are $40 or below depending how bad i want it, then buy it, but ive been waiting for them to hit under $30 recently.

I put myself on a cap of $20 the most I'd pay for any single game. Early on in my hobby, I think I paid $32 for a CIB Battletoads & Double Dragon, but that isn't something I'd never do again.

IMO anything over $20 for a single game is a waste of money. Any games priced over that, I'd rather roll the dice for a flea market or yard sale find.
