Portal - awesome physics

Farcry 3 Blood Dragon - more 80s than the 80s

The Last Story - best game I ever played on the wii

Aliens vs Predator - I am a huge fan of the series and loved every minute of it, not as good as the early ones but still fun for fans

Hyperdimension Neptuna - a game about the console war? this is a first.

Brutal Legend - I am a fan of double fine productions and this title did not disappoint

Catherine - this is a fun and yet quirky game. i love it

Are people still calling GameStop about this one?
Apparently since I get yelled at every time I try and pre-order it. I still don't understand why they get mad at me though I mean they asked me if there's anything I wanted to pre-order. I know 4chan has been doing it to the place from that pawn stars t.v. show.

edit: I'll add my change to the thread while I'm at it.

Right now for me my game would have to be Dark Souls. It was a toss up between Dark and Demons. I think demons souls is the game I like more but I spent do much time in Dark Souls that I have to choose it.

There's still games that I'm looking forward to like obviously Dark Souls 2, but also GTA5, Watchdogs and Destiny. Hopefully Dark Souls 2 can improve on what was done in the first one and bring in some of the ideas that were left on the cutting room floor.

Actually I'm going to go on a tangent. Which gen do games like Watchdogs and Destiny count towards? They are going to be released on this gen and the next gen consoles.

This. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is my GotY and Game of this Gen. It's incredibly flawed, yes, but it's so fresh.

Long gen so I can't really trim it down too much.

Metroid Prime 3 - Could almost forget about this one since it came out so long ago. This is straight up one of the best trilogies of all time in my book. I was the biggest skeptic ever going into the original Prime and thought Metroid was ruined (even as an FPS fanboy sometimes, just didn't seem right), and Retro proved me so wrong now it's probably permanently ruined 3D Castlevania for me, because they'll never be this good and this true to the series main formula. 3 is my least favorite of the trilogy, but still an amazing game.

Skyward Sword - I love Zelda. Better combat than Twilight Princess and the Japanese remind me that orchestral music can still be done well in games, because they don't forget about melody (loved Galaxy's score too). Game was a bit too long with backtracking near the end, but yeah a glorious adventure for sure. Still the one series that makes me feel like I'm 5 years old unwrapping candy and everything around me just disappears.

Xenoblade - A bit simple and I had to take a break midway in for a few months, but yeah this is everything I love in JRPG's. I'm a rare fan of ALL the Xeno games, and Xenoblade is no different. Also the best OST I've heard this gen, period. As the game got increasingly sci-fi and interesting towards the end, it just kept getting better and better. One of the bigger general messages that I believe all the Xeno's emphasis is something that means a lot personally, so as simple as it was, towards the end it was another reminder of good times. Basically I like how all the Xeno's tend to usually evolve into a "Challenging God" scenario and to me they seem to clearly spell out that history is ever-changing and you can change your future, absolutely nothing is ever written in stone. You have the will to power.

Bioshock Infinite - This is going to be a game I go back to for ages to come. I'd also put it above the first two. The story was so damn good and interesting, Ken Levine is the man. Not as good as System Shock 2, but separates the men from the boys in the FPS market for sure. More than a simple game, it was definitely an experience and left me thinking.

Deus Ex Human Revolution - They somehow pulled this off. Not as good as the original or near it, but damn it was amazing and one of the few games this gen where I'd sit there sinking ~6 or more hours into playing it at a time. If only Jensen didn't have the Bale Batman voice and the story didn't fall apart near the end, but still 20 some hours of amazing stuff and my favorite FPS formula (open-linearity?).

Dishonored - Damn the magic abilities making the game too easy, but yeah this game was legit. Loved the gameplay and again, my kind of FPS. Linear, but with many options and story/interacting on the sides.

Fallout New Vegas - Can't get enough of Obsidian's writing. I liked Fallout 3 and Skyrim, but the dialogue put me in a coma in comparison to New Vegas' which was pretty damn interesting and had a lot of personality. The factions meant something, etc. If only the engine wasn't terrible, easily modified though so maybe it'll age well.

Dead Space - Based off where RE4 was heading, this is what RE should have become. Don't totally care for the story, but it gets the job done and I'm a sucker for gritty sci-fi, and loved the combat. I just replayed all three awhile back and yeah they've aged well and left a good mark. Fantastic games that aren't riddled with a lot of tropes I'm not a fan of in other big 3rd person shooters.

Mass Effect - Overall I had a good time with this trilogy. It's not as complex or interesting as KoTR2 was to me (Obsidian again there...) but yeah. Still dug the world presented here, got pretty invested, awesome music, good stuff. Just wished the series was a little more complex both gameplay and story wise, but I'll take it.

Demon's / Dark Souls - 8/16bit design and philosophies. Thank you Souls, for not holding my hand. I wish games like this weren't so far and between, but I guess that makes them even more special. I believe Dark Souls is 110% absolutely everything Castlevania should have become (so maybe they could be up there with the Prime games... I can definitely put Souls on the same level).

Metal Gear Solid 4 - I'm going to replay it sometime soon and it'll be the first personal journey through it, but I originally played through the whole thing with a recurring group of friends when it was new. One of my favorite series ever and I probably teared up a few times. I can't really say anything else this gen had me that invested in characters.

Nier - Stood out a lot to me, even if it's kind of flawed and I ended up losing a little interest before finishing a second playthrough (when it apparently gets even better). But yeah, underrated gem I can speak highly of.

XBLA/PSN Choices - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ikaruga, Perfect Dark HD... wait, okay I'll just say Megaman 9-10 and Shadow Complex.

Still a lot to play this gen though, but yeah.

Within this gen I did finally play through System Shock 2, Thief 1-2, and Unreal Gold, I'd say they're probably my top favorite FPS's of all time next to Deus Ex (#3 after Link to the Past and Super Metroid).

I wish they toned down the difficulty a notch and tightened up the controls. That would have made me completely love Catherine. As it is I see it as a very interesting, but flawed, experiment

I still think it's worth playing, so I'm not knocking it
brunoafh wrote:Seeing the Brutal Legend mentions... that was a really great game, wasn't it? That one does stick out to me just for being so different and, well, so metal. The gameplay was kind of wonky (honestly for console RTS it was okay though) but I had more fun in the Brutal Legend sandbox than nearly any other sandbox game I played this gen. Nothing beats summoning your ride by playing a guitar solo and cruising around listening to Megadeth. I was surprised by the variety of songs and they were able to get, ranging from more popular stuff to some pretty damn obscure stuff. Not the best production values ever, but so much personality and creativity going on. Great experience all around, I'll have to replay that one for sure.

The biggest knock I'd give it was having annoying Jack Black as the voice but to my surprise I got over it pretty quickly.
If one judges a game just on memorable moments, Brutal Legend is up there

I liked Brutal Legends a freaking lot, too. But I thought that was just because I'm a metal-head, so it completely targeted me. Glad to hear a lot of other people enjoyed it as much as I did.

Fallout 3 for single player, Halo 3 for multiplayer. Fallout 3, damn, I have played through multiple 100 percent completion games and have logged more than 1000 hours. It just never gets old, the atmosphere is the best in any game ever.

I really, really wanted to like Fallout 3, but the whole... greenish grey look of it all just made me not like it. That, and the flashlight blows so hard. You can't see shit.

I haven't played enough of NV to make a decision on it. Had to sell it to buy something, never got a chance.

For me it would be any of the following:

Xenoblade: Simply put, one of the best JRPGs to come out of Japan. I am so glad I preordered it and got it at release otherwise I probably would not have been able to play it because...well check Ebay....

Smash Bros Brawl: I put SO many hours into playing this game its not even funny. Say what you want about it not being as hardcore as melee, but this game has so much content and modes to keep you coming back.

Super Mario Galaxy: This game is incredible! The graphics, the level design, the music, everything was excellent. One of my favorite mario games and one of my favorite 3D platformers.

Knights in the nightmare: What a hidden gem this game was! I actually preordered it and got the nice artbook. Honestly, I can't even classify this game, it is its own genre. The gameplay is incredibly unique, there really is nothing else like it.

Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan: Super addictive and over the top awesomeness.

Ace Attorney series: Really cool story and some truly memorable characters

999: Arguably better than any single Ace attorney. One of the best stories imo in a japanese game and some really crazy plot twists.

Mushihimesama Futari: really fun shmup! And one of the few that I actually come back to fairly often.

Sonic Generations: So much sonic nostalgia crammed into one epic game.
