For me, I just troll Ebay, Craigslist, and Amazon for deals. They're there, but you have to be constant. I managed to find a boxed copy of Harvest Moon 64 boxed for $35, but I didn't get a manual. (Btw, if anybody has a manual...)

I have been constant the last few days like you guys suggest and I scored a untested SNES mini and SNES original for 30 dollars shipped. Hope to repair and sell both for some games. We will see it might end up being a huge headache as the 62 pins cannot be removed so if some sandpaper doesn't cut it or the mainboard is just shot somewhow.. Then I lost out :C

Yeah. Another option is hopping on at some form of retro game store, as that might lead to something. I've been considering trying for a job at one around here, as I've been informed that employees get first picks, along with discounts. Not that it helps all that much, but might be something worth considering.

Try to catch a Monster branded one. They were overpriced at retail, but they are a quality cable.

After reading this thread, I did some looking. Screw me, prices are freaking insane. I can't believe this crap, I'm screwed.

I love building my collection. Though I don't have tons of money to spend on a single cartridge. So, I cheated and got an EverDrive for the SNES; mainly to collect RPGs. Wasn't cheap, but cheaper than some copies of some RPGs. Its already paid for itself with all the RPGs I have on it that I didn't have to pay for. Basically I am recommending an EverDrive cart. Not quite as fun as having the actual cartridge but if you are tight on funds it is an excellent investment.

May I also suggest messaging people on Ebay with buy it nows who have an item that isn't particularly in the best condition or whose game is only a dollar or two more than you want to pay a lot of them will work with you, if its a rarer game though not really advised.

I'll second this. I have an NES Powerpak and it's some of the best money I've ever spent. It's a great way to play Famicom/FDS games that never got released in the US as well as stuff like Flintstones: Surprise At Dinosaur Peak that's super rare but fun to play. It's also nice to be able to play homebrews and rom hacks on real hardware.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

For ebaythe lots it depends on what is in the lot and how much it is going for. Don't forget to factor in shipping so you don't get burned by a $20-30 extra charge.
But generally if there is alot of stuff you want in the lot, its cheaper than purchasing them individually. Any unwanted games in the lot can go back on ebay or sold to buddies to help off set the cost.

Sometimes, it's just luck in finding things. I don't expect to find a loose copy of Earthbound at the Salvation Army but if I find something interesting and a good price then I'll snag it. I have two areas I go to and I barely find anything but sometimes luck is on my side. It's the thrill of the chase that keeps me going. Just keep trying, you may only find a dirty copy of Madden 95 for $3 or you may find a complete boxed copy of Earthbound for $8. It's the thrill that should drive you.
