Meh, I figure eight years is long enough for a play through.

Absolutely; If your goal is to completely disregard the spirit of, and halfheartedly participate in this particular challenge.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Meh, I figure eight years is long enough for a play through.
Started on Blaster Master, and came to the cruel realization that there's no password feature after taking a break while en-route to Stage 4. Went back at it from the beginning, only to have the game lock up on me 30 minutes later, a couple rooms away from the Stage 3 boss. This game is surprisingly easy so far, although I heard tell of a crab boss in Stage 5 that I'm looking forward to challenging. I could not hate the Nintendo D-pad any more than I do, though. Are there any third-party controllers for the NES/SNES with decent d-pads? I am eternally grateful to Nintendo for patenting this horrible design, and deterring other companies from implement something this poor. (Seriously, it's like moving a block of wood balanced on a nickel. I can't be the only one who hates this thing.) The input errors are infuriating in this game, and I honestly think the 360 d-pad is more precise. (At least in holding a direction.)
Otherwise, I enjoy Blaster Master, aside from how unpredictable the fully-powered gun's blast area is. I don't feel a great compulsion to see it through to the end, but it doesn't seem like it would take a huge commitment to beat, either, so we'll see.

Damn Perriot I'm jealous you can read japanese, I really wish I could play Grandia the way it was ment to be played on the Saturn. I actually bought a saturn copy of Grandia because it was like $8 shipped and thought it would just look nice up on my shelf, I guess I'll have to stick to playing my inferior PS1 copy.
Right now I'm juggling Shining Force 2, Super Mario World, and Chrono Trigger. I really want to start Super Metroid but I need to just focus on one game and enjoy it.

I don't mind the D-pad, but the lack of password was a big deal for me. I ended up beating Blaster Master on an emulator because I couldn't get enough time to play it in one sitting.pierrot wrote:Started on Blaster Master, and came to the cruel realization

I've been meaning to play Grandia for quite a while now, so I'm looking forward to getting into it. I should probably start on it soon, since I imagine it's the longest time commitment of the games on my list.ninjainspandex wrote:Damn Perriot I'm jealous you can read japanese, I really wish I could play Grandia the way it was ment to be played on the Saturn. If I couldn't read Japanese, though, I'd probably just work through the Saturn version with a guide for the PS1. (An old guidebook would probably work pretty well for this.) It would certainly be a bit more clunky an experience, but manageable, perhaps. Since you already have the PS1 version, that would probably be the simpler choice, though. The case does look nice. (Do you have the Memorial Edition?)
Yeah, I really expected for there to be a password. I'll probably have to just speed run it after making a certain amount of progress through repeat plays. (The NES controller is torture on my hands, so it's hard for me to sit with it for long periods at a time.)Valkyrie-Favor wrote:[T]he lack of password was a big deal for me. No, but, it's a list of stuff I've been meaning to get to ... which was addressed about 65 pages ago.
Otherwise, I'd basically have a list of 20 games, 75% of which would likely not be touched.
