A few more mentions:
Mark of the Ninja - Really redefined stealth gameplay in a lot of ways, and what a statement for the relevance of 2D gaming when many people called this game the best stealth game they'd played in years. It certainly is the best stealth game I've played this gen
The Darkness - It's overlooked by many, but I was very impressed by some of the interesting storytelling techniques used in the game. The way in which the game makes you feel connected to Jenny(one of the most romantic scenes I've ever seen in a game), the use of a TV news report to warn the player of an incoming attack, lot of cool stuff they did to draw you into the narrative. Also, its cinematic opening sequence was phenomenal.
Sly Thieves in Time - I love a good old fashioned mascot platform game and the Sly series is my fave
Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction - My favorite modern Ratchet game. I'm one of the few who preferred it to Crack in Time
Sonic Generations - The best modern Sonic game
Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit - Great underrated 16-bit era style platform game. Brings to mind classic Sega platform games and Earthworm Jim
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - Call me crazy, but it's my favorite of ALL of this gen's Tomb Raider games. It was fresh, different, and well designed.
Brutal Legend - The most metal game ever made
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2 - I sunk tons of hours into these games. Good arcade style fun, like Gauntlet+Diablo+arcade beat 'em up
X-Men Wolverine Orings - I thoroughly enjoyed the combat in this game. More fun for me than any God of War game, cause Wolverine > Kratos
The Lego games - These things really took off this gen. I had tons of fun with Lego Star Wars II and Lego Batman
The Dishwasher Vampire Smile - Like the 2d cousin of Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden games, except much cooler. My favorite 2d beat 'em up this gen. Has me pumped for Charlie Murder. Also, the music ska studios games have are some of the best in gaming
To The Moon - One of the most emotional stories I've ever seen in a game. Definitely one of the highlights of my brief foray into PC gaming last year
Dust: An Elysian Tail - One of my favorite metroidvania games ever, literally a perfect game in my opinion
I also loved Lollipop Chainsaw. I don't expect to see it on most people's list for best games this gen, but I thoroughly enjoyed it
On handhelds:
Crisis Core, Maverick Hunter X, Jeanne D'arc, Dracula X Chronicles

Re: Your game of this gen.....
I think that the game that defined this generation for me was Bioshock- prior to that, I didn't have a gaming experienced that felt so cinematic, with a story so fleshed-out. It was the first time I realized just how powerful the medium could be, in terms of visual presentation, writing, and gameplay.
However, my favorite game of the generation is a toss-up, between Rayman Origins, Bioshock, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown
maybe throw Fallout: New Vegas in there

Re: Your game of this gen.....
I would have a hard time picking just one, so I'm gonna... uhm... cheat.
Best emotionally gripping experience: Tie between Journey (PS3) and Dear Esther (PC)
Best game that I didn't expect to be half as good as it turned out to be: Ghost Trick (DS)
Best game that I love despite almost everyone else hating it: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
Best game that I was afraid to play: Tie between Dead Space (PS3) and Demon's Souls (PS3)
And best overall game of the generation: Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, and then PC)
Just in case of any confusion, I listed the systems I played them on. Not necessarily all the systems the game was on.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Re: Your game of this gen.....
Having been an Xbox 360 owner primarily from 2006 to 2011, I missed out on many PS3 exclusives (although I did enjoy Heavy Rain with a friend), and am only now enjoying some of Wii's finest games. So as things stand, the five games I enjoyed the most this gen currently stand as:
1. Fallout 3
2. Bayonetta
3. Splinter Cell: Conviction
4. Rayman Origins
5. FIFA 12 (yeah I went there)

Re: Your game of this gen.....
I have yet to play The Last of Us, so maybe it will be on this list when I do...
But my favorites this gen (PS3) have been:
Borderlands 2
Darksiders
Dead Space
Batman: Arkham City
Honorable mentions for Uncharted and Red Dead Redemption.
If I *had* to pick only 1 game from this gen, I'd probably give the slight edge to Borderlands 2. I've gone through the game multiple times, and I'm still playing it with a buddy online. The story, the humor, the gameplay, the loot....all of it is still fun. I'm usually burned out on a game after I get the plat, but not BL2.

Oh my, there are a few, broken up by console:
Wii:
Zelda Skyward Sword
Mario Galaxy
360:
HALO Reach
Battle Block Theater
PC:
Left 4 Dead 2
Borderlands 1/2
Castle Crashers
Dungeon Defenders
Terraria
If I had to choose just one, probably Borderlands 1/2.

Even when you pick just one you pick more than one.fastbilly1 wrote: If I had to choose just one, probably Borderlands 1/2.

well since Borderlands 2 > Borderlands 1, the choice seems obviousfastbilly1 wrote:Perks of being an admin?J T wrote:Even when you pick just one you pick more than one.fastbilly1 wrote: If I had to choose just one, probably Borderlands 1/2.
I'm surprised at how many people here haven't played the highly regarded PS3 exclusives
