Sega is not the same company it was when it was making consoles. It's just a brand name now. It probably cost more for Sony and Microsoft to develop their new consoles than the entire net-worth of Sega.

I say this as a huge Sega fan, but leave Sega out of the hardware race. They had their run and it was wonderful but they don't belong there anymore. Also I don't see them abandoning their multi-platform software sales to risk everything on new hardware anytime soon.

The only thing I could see happening as others have mentioned is something small-scale like an Android device. That's what that "Spectrum" fuss was all about that turned out to be more unfounded rumors.
