I certainly have a bunch of games I've loved though... Heavy Rain, Journey, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Catherine, etc.

However, this comment caught my eye:

^and ultimately, it might be hard for me to ever say that any one game was so important to me this generation. I mean, I was the guy that made this thread: http://racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... w+fighting

But frankly, all the screens I've seen... they just look wrong to me. I mean sure the graphics are pretty or whatever. But the camera angles, the lack of sprites... it just doesn't appeal to me. SFIV just doesn't look like a SF game to me. Is it just me?
but then I remember vividly playing SF4 in a kiosk at the mall while Christmas shopping with my wife. And it was just a moment of 'woah... why am I dragging my feet about new games?' It would be the first game I'd buy for my PS3 and the one I've spent the most time playing with friends - something I couldn't really do until this generation because most of my gaming friends live in other states.
I was doing the same, going back and playing the oldies. One day I decided why not spend my limited time playing the best of what today has to offer. I enjoy the old games but sometimes playing these newer titles with all the flash and such is worth waiting to go back.

Whew. This is going to be tough.

The game I suggest the most would be Child of Eden, although I actually think Wii Sports defined this gen.

But as far as my favorite game of this gen, I really don't know. This will take some thought.

This has been such a long generation that this is a real toughie. I'd guess my shortlist of "top five" would include Uncharted 2, Bioshock, Dragon Age, Metro 2033, and Borderlands 2. Rounding out the top 10 would probably be Resistance 3, Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, DoDonPachi Resurrection, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. In time I'd guess that some of the "second five" might switch places with the "first five"...and some may drop out of the top ten altogether.

These kind of lists are quite difficult, though! I genuinely think that the past 7-8 years has seen more quality, worthwhile games than any other generation in history. I could easily name 100 games or more from this generation that I highly enjoyed and that I think would be reasonable choices for someone's personal top 10. What a great time to be a gamer!

Would have to be Far Cry 3 for me, Red Dead Redemption and Fallout New Vegas are a very close second and third. No other games sucked me into the world like that

Set: It's 2006 in a dimly lit room. At one end of a small table a 360 sits. At the other end a Wii.

360
Those Sony fools want you gone so they can get back to the way things were. But I know the truth. There's no going back. You've changed things, forever.

Wii
Then why do you wanna kill my system?

360
I don't wanna kill your system. What would I do without it? Go back to ripping off Sega? No, no. No. no, motion controls...complete me.

For me it takes no thought, Demon's Souls.

I love it for what it is of course, but beyond that it was the first game of this generation to completely engage me and sell me on the new generation of gaming. I was very underwhelmed by the new consoles and gaming, and Demon's Souls swept me off my feet and changed my thought process and how I felt about it all. A landmark game for me.

Other mentions:

Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan!
Red Seeds Profile (Deadly Premonition)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Super Street Fighter IV

There were plenty of other games that I hold in very high regard for this generation, but those five will go on to be what defined my experience with it.

Too many games this gen for me to ever pick just one.

However, the one game that has eaten more time than any other this generation is Team Fortress 2. I have nearly 1000 hours of my life in that game. It's very, very good.
Older. Not wiser.
