So the Last of Us Thread inspired me to ask this. As the 360/PS3 and even Wii are winding down or are gone as with the Wii, what is your game of this gen?
Which game and even why, I am very interested in hearing.
I will start, Fallout 3. For me this was a whole new experience. I had been mainly out of new games for a few years and had no idea how far some games had come. I was still stuck at my PS1, or even Genesis. I decided to step up to the current gen and found this. It blew me away and kept we just wanting to walk around to see what would happen. I cannot wait till the PS4 gets games like this. Now I love open world, can't get enough. IT inspired me to go back and play all those PS2/Gamecube games that I missed.

Fallout 3 is probably my choice too, though Red Dead Redemption is up there. I think it may just be that I played that one much more recently. Honorable mention to BioShock.

Define the start and cut off point for "this gen" please.

Overall: Earth Defense Force 2017. I'm not sure I ever had more fun playing a video game, and it's a budget title.
I cannot freaking wait for Earth Defense Force 2025. I wish they'd make a Robot Alchemic Drive sequel.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Both HD and SD versions) was a big one for me as well. Not because it's the best game, but it was the dream game I always wanted as a kid manifested into reality.
Skyrim deserves a mention as the only game to really grip me and suck me into its world. Not only that but it was a roleplaying game that managed to do it which is doubly rare for me.
Other two games that I think deserve some praise this generation are Batman: Arkham Asylum which redefined the beat'em up and Street Fighter IV which returned the versus fighter to the spotlight.
I'm sure there are loads of other games I could probably talk about. It's been a very long and very wild generation.

For the most part, I think I won't be able to make that call until PS3/360/Wii games completely stop, and then I have a year or two to still dig thru everything I didn't get to play.
I certainly have a bunch of games I've loved though... Heavy Rain, Journey, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Catherine, etc.
However, this comment caught my eye:

^and ultimately, it might be hard for me to ever say that any one game was so important to me this generation. I mean, I was the guy that made this thread: http://racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... w+fightingGunstar Green wrote:and Street Fighter IV which returned the versus fighter to the spotlight.
but then I remember vividly playing SF4 in a kiosk at the mall while Christmas shopping with my wife. And it was just a moment of 'woah... why am I dragging my feet about new games?' It would be the first game I'd buy for my PS3 and the one I've spent the most time playing with friends - something I couldn't really do until this generation because most of my gaming friends live in other states.noiseredux wrote:So I figured I'd be really excited about Street Fighter IV or the Capcom Vs Namco announcement or the new Marvel Vs Capcom game thats' coming out. But frankly, all the screens I've seen... they just look wrong to me. I mean sure the graphics are pretty or whatever. But the camera angles, the lack of sprites... it just doesn't appeal to me. SFIV just doesn't look like a SF game to me. Is it just me?

I was hoping to stick to traditional console. How about handhelds, but not PC. I think it may be hard to define a generation for PC.Luke wrote:If it was, would I have asked?muhanad wrote:Isnt that self explanatory?Luke wrote:Define the start and cut off point for "this gen" please.
