I know, I spent a semester in Ireland a few years back and the prices you guys get stuck paying are ridiculous. I mean, euro or pound, your still getting the short end. (always will remember giving a $100.00 to the exchange lady in London and she gave me back 51 pounds, gut punch).

Anyways, more topical.

I finally bought a top-loader on Amazon about a month ago because it was a decent price ($50) and I've always wanted one. If anything, it always makes good conversation with guests because most people have no idea that it was even produced. (I remember 1993 and seeing it in the glass case at Toys R Us and thinking to myself, why would anyone ever want an NES now?)

Well, I stroll in my local thrift store and what do I find yesterday?

An NES top-loader. How much?

$3.90.

The funny part is this thrift store has jacked up prices in the last three years. If they have a toaster model NES, you will be lucky if it gets priced anything less than $15.00 (with no cables). A few years back, everything was $3.90. The ladies in the back had absolutely no idea what it was and just slapped a price on it.

The funniest part: they had just put it out along with two other items. A Nintendo Orange zapper for $4.90 and a PS1 fat model with no cables for $9.90.

That PS1 joined the other 9 they had already put out over the last few weeks ranging in price from $7.90 to $24.90.

Still can't seem to find that pricing sweet spot for those...they should try free next.

Nice! I found a top loader at a thrift store last September for $5 myself. Same thing there- I don't think they knew what it was as they routinely sell damaged Gameboys for $20 or and Genesis' w/o cables of any sort for $10-20. You never know what you'll find in those places. That's why it's fun, I suppose.
"Oh great, another box of useless sh*t."

Main Collection: http://connect.collectorz.com/users/ynj ... collection - Not looking to move anything on this list but would entertain offers.

Got my top loader the same way for $4.99.

Still on the hunt for that elusive dogbone controller though. :(

One thing I can never figure out with collectors is why the Black label is sought after more then the Greatest Hits version for any system. The connotation that a black label is more valuable seems silly to me.

Great story! I wish I could find games lost from my youth like that. With that history you really should get that console fixed or get a replacement. What exactly is wrong with it, might be a simple repair such as a broken wire inside the power lead or something. Congrats on the games in your other replies as well. Those boxes look crisp new!
Well value is driven by both rarity and interest together or separately. There is always a preference among collectors for the original run of a game regardless of actual print run numbers. But that isn't always the case. Off the top of my head, PS2 Silent Hill 2 is one game where the greatest hits is more valuable than the BL, due to the inclusion of previously XBox exclusive content.

The Intellivision console displays a black screen when its hooked up and a game inserted. I already cleaned all the ports and external switches. According to the Google, the black screen issue is a symptom of a wide range of issues, from a dirty cart connection to broken solder joint to a dead CPU/RAM chip. When I have some time, I'll need to crack it open and take a look inside.

Another successful trip out today.

Didnt pay over 4.00 for any one game. About 20.00 for the whole lot. Found in a couple different garages this morning.

Never really seen them before. Bought them with the intent to sell them as part of my trade up thread. Only gonna keep the ps2 games and crash bandicoot. But they look interesting.

Kiss Pinball is terrible on PS1. It was made by people that made some good other PC pinball games, all I can guess is the people that ported it messed it up. And for Kiss fans... there's no Kiss music in the game. So it isn't worth anything and nobody will cry if you open it.
