That's Stage 6, I think. The speedy ninja guy who comes after that also has a few tricky attacks. One thing to remember is that there are extends every 300k, so if you can clear Stage 4 you should be on around 600k. There are loads of points on Stage 5, so that'll take you up to 900k, with another potential extend at 1200k on Stage 6. So if you save up as many bombs and lives as possible, you could have at least 4-5 lives and over a dozen bombs to get through the last stage. I think I cleared it with two lives to spare. The loop is even tougher, you'll be pleased to hear. :)

Well, I just made it through the training mode for Prince of Persia. This is going to be a slog, as this guy controls about as well as a barge, if that barge were in a video game designed by Pen and Teller and had to travel at 45 mph in a desert from Tucson, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada, while veering slightly to the right. Oh wait, that game actually exists, and I think it controls better than Prince of Persia...
Which Prince of Persia is this?
I'm playing the SNES port of it. In fact I'm playing through the SNES version of every game on my list.

Yeah, I had gotten to the 2nd loop but didn't realize it. On my 6th credit I cleared it and got my camera out to take pics, "Grandpa will be so proud of me." And as i'm focusing the camera, I see i'm now on 2-1 and got hit before I could even get my hands back at the controls.

I guess I was noticing points were picking up in later levels - I wondered how 354K felt like a really good score, yet the high scores on shmups were in the 1.7-2.0 mil range. Maybe now that i've seen those bosses a couple times I will give it another go. That ninja is something else. So fast.

So, apparently, I'm an idiot. There is a map in Dragon Quest II. It just happens to be an item buried in a place that I thought I wouldn't need to go to until late game. Turns out, I was supposed to go there around the mid-point of the game. Who knew.

That brings me to one of a few issues I have with this game: Half way through, the game just gives you a boat, and says, 'Here. Go circle the globe a few times to figure out where to go.' Then it pretty much continues to do this for the rest of the game. Information about any particular task is spread out between multiple towns, and there's a clear order of events, but there's really not a lot of structure to make the order apparent. I might not have as much of a problem with this if the encounter rate weren't so frustrating at times, and if the other two characters weren't so useless for most of the game.

Anyway, ranting aside, I'm about to reach the final dungeon. (although I've had a demon tail stuffed in my storage for a while, that I have no idea what to do with; that could be an issue.) The way the end of this game has been going, it'll probably take me another five hours just to get up to the final boss, though. :? /grumbling

Well, at least you played through it at last. I won't say you're a terrible person for not liking the game.
At least out loud.

Well, I also despise the controls in the SNES port of Prince of Persia. I played through the first couple of levels today. I may skimp on the last five games and go play something fun instead...

That's perfectly understandable, it controls like crap.

I've owned that game twice and got rid of it both times because I couldnt stand the controls. Same goes for all of those rotoscope adventure platformers from that era for me though - I';ve got rid of Another World once and Flashback at least 3 times now too.

As for the rest of your list, I feel like the only must-play game is Yoshi's Island. I'd at least give that a go. :)

I've already pulled it out and cleaned it for playing! So expect me to start talking about it. Prince of Persia is entertaining but frustrating, so I may only end up doing a level a night and then putting it down. Two levels left me raging hard last night.
