Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
I initially had no interest in the GCN. It wasn't until 2008 I bothered to get one, because MGS: TTS looked so cool, along with RE4. Nintendo just didn't do a very good job marketing it to anyone except those that are going to buy every Nintendo console anyway. However, now I have a quite decent selection of games and kinda wish I had bought one earlier.

The Wii, I thought it was a terrible system. The look of it, the control, the kiddy games. I hated it until I looked into some hidden gems and somehow over time I fell in love with the system. I do currently own one and it revivals my PS3 library of current consoles.

Whoo-hoo! Good to see another Gamecube fan join the ranks!Snatch1414 wrote:Anyways, years later I find that the GameCube is no joke. Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
It was the N64 for me.
At the time I was a PC gamer. I rolled my eyes at the console gamers arguing back and forth over graphics during this generation. I really hated the awkward 3D controls on consoles at the time as well. I still do.
A friend won me over with a few PlayStation games that interested me but I could never get into the N64. There was just nothing about it that interested me. When the Dreamcast came out I probably forgot the N64 even existed.
Still, when I first started collecting I decided to pick one up. I did enjoy playing the occasional Smash Brothers with my friends and that alone warranted parting with the five bucks I spent on the system.
The story doesn't end with me loving the N64 though. While I found a few more games that I really enjoy it still has the same problems I felt it had back when it was new and it's a generation in console gaming that I have little love for. It's the only system I own that I'd think of parting with and may actually do so now that I can get Star Fox 64 on the 3DS.
Oddly enough I liked the Gamecube from the beginning. I got one for Metroid Prime and always enjoyed it. The Game Boy Player makes it even more awesome.

I have the same feeling regarding both the N64 and the GameCube.Gunstar Green wrote:It was the N64 for me.

Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
To be honest, looking at it now, the Gamecube seems to be the last best system for true horror games. Sure PS2 had Silent Hill 2 and 3, and they shared RE4, but nothing compares to Eternal Darkness. And the Gamecube also got the REmake and RE Zero.lisalover1 wrote:Whoo-hoo! Good to see another Gamecube fan join the ranks!Snatch1414 wrote:Anyways, years later I find that the GameCube is no joke. Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
It's got to be the 360 and PSP for me.
I initially bought a 360 with money I had saved up as a kid back in late '06 and HATED it. At the time the hardware issues and lack of games, not to mention high price of software, made it a no-go for me and I sold it to a buddy for who it red ringed a few months later. Now, after having recently bought a PS3, and seeing all the insane software I missed out on I've begun picking up lots of 360 gear and titles before they're impossible to find. With the new re-design that just came out today I hope that there's a price cut in the future as it would more than happily get me into the 360 hot seat and playing a lot of the good stuff on offer there.
PSP was always hit and miss, and I think we all know that long story by now. About a year or so ago I picked a PSP up for the wife, and we've both been glued to it pretty solidly ever since. There's so much content UMD and otherwise that came out in the twilight years of the PSP I missed out on and most of it is gold which is nuts.

Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
You might want to dig a little more into the PS2 library: Fatal Frame series, Clock Tower 3, Rule of Rose, Siren, Echo Night Beyond, Kuon, Haunting Ground. (May as well put the Onimusha series in there too.) Plus more, if you feel like slumming it a bit. All the Gamecube has is Eternal Darkness, RE Zero, and remakes of RE 1-3. Great games, though they may be, I would hardly call the Gamecube the last bastion of horror gaming.MrEco wrote:To be honest, looking at it now, the Gamecube seems to be the last best system for true horror games.
