I'm at the last boss of Final Fantasy and he is making me want to throw my PSP thru the window with his 9999 HP healing.

Totally not classic, but I did start Walking Dead ... it's very good so far. I think I expected the material to be toned down a bit because it's by TaleTell ... that expectation has been curb-stomped.

Parasite Eve

Still working on;
Dragonquest 8

I am to the point now where, if it looks the person isn't even going to try and do it right, I am not going to bother with their list. "Hey here's ten games in my backlog that I want to play this summer" is not really what the thread is for.

pierrot wrote:Yeah, there's a small overworld map on the inside cover of Dragon Warrior II for the NES. I ended up just looking at a map that didn't list place names, and found the island I was looking for. I don't know how I missed it, because I'd been by the area it was in a bagillion times. My gut was right that it would have my gold key, though. I also stumbled upon the sunken treasure out of sheer, dumb-ass-luck.

Likely my favorite RPG is Dragon Quest V remake on DS....those dang tiny islands will get you in this series.

There is even a spot in DQV where you travel up a small river (where there is a large ocean & multiple ontinents mind you!) to a peninsula to find a tiny building to get one needed item. It about drove me crazy! Great games though. I'm all about the over world maps after that experience lol!

Yeah, whilst I don't always agree with what you think counts and what doesn't, I would prefer people actually choose a list of 10 games that THEY at least regard as classics, and not some average scoring XBox 360 title from 2012 or something

Not that you can't enjoy playing those games over the summer, but it's not really the point of this here thread.

You could make a pretty reasonable list of 10 out of that:
- Sonic CD
- Sin & Punishment
- Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D (including Master Quest)
- Burning Rangers
- Dark Cloud
- Mega Man X4
- Guardian Heroes

And then probably 3 of these:
- Legend of Oasis
- Gunbird
- Ape Escape 2 (in progress)
- Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (in hard mode)
- Darius II

Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - What will you be playing?

Post by Ack »

1. Donkey Kong Country
2. Pilotwings
3. StarFox
4. John Madden Football
5. Super Mario Bros 3 (Super Mario All-Stars)
6. NBA Jam
7. Prince of Persia
8. Sunset Riders *NOW PLAYING*
9. Yoshi's Island
10. Chrono Trigger *NOW PLAYING*
Fastbilly and I played through the arcade version of Sunset Riders over the weekend, though I will not knock it off my list until I've run through the SNES version too, since that was my original intention. But hopefully I will be able to get to it sometime this week.

As for Chrono Trigger, I'm almost done with my first playthrough! I just have sidequests and the Black Omen to take care of. I do plan to go back through and try for all of the endings, though once I beat it the first time, I'll mark it off this list.

Hmm...not sure which to move onto for the next thing. Pilotwings? StarFox? Yoshi's Island? I plan to hold off on NBA Jam and Madden for a bit, though I do need to get started on Prince of Persia.

Uhh... so I got off my lazy butt and realized this was for classics. I read this a while ago too, I guess it just never sank in. Here's my real list. Now.. I know some of this list is white-bread, but my parents rarely ever bought me games as a kid... and they were usually educational if that (math blaster, mario is missing...). Now is my chance to see what I missed out on.

1. Parasite Eve
2. Super Metroid
3. Metroid
4. Super Mario RPG
5. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
6. Sonic the Hedgehog
7. GoldenAxe
8. STALKER
9. Contra
10. Goldeneye 007

All of these will be played on the original hardware.

I adore me some Starfox, so I recommend that. It's a much shorter game too, so a nice change after Chrono Trigger.

Yoshi is a bit longer, and Pilotwings is a bit tougher, but both are good if you fancy them instead.
