This is something I really look forward to when the prices become reasonable for the average person. The ability to print replacement gears, cart shells, etc. will be great for maintaining old consoles, games, and accessories.

3D printers aren't actually that outrageously priced, there's consumer kits that are around the $1000 mark.

It's going to take a looooooot of console replacement parts (instead of buying a new old console) for it to be worth the investment.

....unless you sell a retro repair shop, or are making reproduction carts.

Yeah, but you can use it to make other things. Like that Scorpion statue you always wanted that screams "Get over here" ... maybe that's just me :\

Something I want to do is create a new shell to look like the Sega Neptune picture, and do the 32X/Genesis mod so it's one unit and cram it all in there. I think someone might be interested in paying a bit for that package (Especially considering labor costs >_>).

And there's the general interest in just being able to make stuff.

This is veering slightly off-topic, but I wonder what'll happen to tabletop gaming when more people will be able to print out their own miniature figures instead of having pay Games Workshop-level prices for them.

Imagine if you beat a game and hook it up to a printer then you could print out a special trophy only when you beat the game. Then you could show all your friends yeah I beat that.

The profit margin on Warhammer figures must be disgusting. I love the Warhammer/Warhammer 40K universe but the price kept me from getting into figure gaming back when I was younger and enthusiastic about it.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
