Shmup of the Month Club 2013 (Giga Wing)
Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2013 (Cotton Boomerang)
I'm not involved in any competitions in Japan, so I don't know about that - these are just some of the games I've seen in a couple of the biggest arcades here.

...for this game...auto fire is a completely different game. Shot button for max hit requires fast (almost painful tapping) to get a big max hit going, if you can just hold it down, that is a massive advantage.
Also, B button to cancel buttons - same thing.
No auto-fire for Cotton.

According to this description, the Saturn version does have rapid fire...

I'll check.options menu tonight. If this is true then i'd guess auto is cool (mike?)

I do not see buttom mapping or auto-fire - i'll look tonight.noiseredux wrote:I'll check.options menu tonight. If this is true then i'd guess auto is cool (mike?)
From the menu when I looked the first night it was "Option A, Option B, or Option C", but you couldn't self map or choose auto. Maybe if you choose an option you can d-pad over to the buttons themselves and choose more options.
If so, then yeah, it can be used, but definitely needs to be notated. I had a 180+ max hit that I literally cramped up on - w/autofire, I have no doubts it would've been 250+, easily.

The Saturn version gives the option to map command shots (arc shots) to the X, Y, Z, L, and R buttons, and you can switch that option to map them all as rapid fire buttons, but as far as I know, there's no way to map them individually, and the only other mapping options there are, are some presets for shot, grab, change buttons mapping to the A, B, and C buttons.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2013 (Cotton Boomerang)
ExedExes - 1,864,500 - Stage 4 (boss) - 34 Chain/100 Hit - Needle/Appli2/Appli3 - MAME
I switched up the characters a bit. Appli2 isn't too bad. Stage 4 boss is brutal. In MAME the button assignments for these extra buttons are there, but they seem to be no effect. Button 1 is the (non-autofire) shot, 2 is the "capture", and 3 is to change. Those are the ones that work, and the only 3 I'm using. I'd rather not have 6 or 7 buttons. This is a shmup, not a fighter.
I did find that after the top 10 scores display, the next screen breaks down your scores and chains by stage, that's a plus.
Current scores -- again I ask you to please specify characters, they are all unique enough to make a difference, and someone might want to try the combination that got you such a good score and/or chain. Also, not much of a difference in scores here, just 50k separates 3 of us, and it's clear I need to get farther to do better
rufus777 - 4,732,600 - ALL - 43 Chain / 24 Hit - Cotton3/Appli3/Silk - Saturn
DocHauser- 2,054,800 - Stage 3 - 50 Chain / 193 Hit - Cotton3/Appli2/Appli3 - Shmupmame 2.2
pierrot - 1,901,600 - Stage 3 (boss) - 74 Chain / 145 Hit - Appli1/Appli3/Silk - Saturn
mjmjr25 - 1,887,900 - Stage 3 (boss) - 48 Chain / 221 hit - Needle/Cotton1/Appli2 - Saturn
ExedExes - 1,864,500 - Stage 4 (boss) - 34 Chain / 100 Hit - Needle/Appli2/Appli3 - MAME
noiseredux - 876,000 - Stage 3 - chain? - Needle/Appli3/? - Saturn
As I went through the thread, somehow I originally missed the 1.9m score from pierrot and the score from a new member? Geez. I thought 2 million meant we were all pretty good.
