Really the situation is just unchanged. Any developer could currently require an online pass to play a game. Heck, even Nintendo could do that- even with their bassackwards store system.

I really don't understand how there was any confusion over Sony's stance on all this when the statement is from before the PS4 event. This is something we've known since February. There's non-mandatory DRM that can be utilized, and you can expect publishers like EA, UbiSoft, and Square Enix to utilize it (they're some of the worst in the PC realm, I doubt their philosophies will differ much on console)
