Does anyone here collect or dabbled in CPS III hardware before???
I have some questions regarding the hardware and its games....
Capcom Play System III
Re: Capcom Play System III
Seems to have a few good fighters, please tell me that you are getting one. The price has gotten reasonable and I think the suicide/phoenix stuff has been cracked too. I have really though about picking one up in the future myself.

Few!? Lol! I actually find the entire 6 game lineup for it to be very appealing.
Yeah, one of my questions was regarding such a topic. I'm a bit confused on the info but I hear this is relating more towards the 2nd Impact rom (bios) cart being able to revive other dead carts.
While on the subject of 2nd Impact. I've heard that this game supports widescreen. I've messed around with the system config on 3rd Strike cab before and I've never seen such an option for that game. If true, is 2nd Impact the only title to have widescreen support, or do any of the 2 Jojo releases or Red Earth have this option as well.
Thanks in advance.

I have read about people using one special cart to run all the games even burned copies. I was trying to find the info but still digging around.

Re: Capcom Play System III
Right now there are three ways to play CPS3 games. I might have some of this wrong, but this should be the sparkle notes of CPS3.
The first is to use the original security cart and load the game that came with it. This is how it comes stock. To switch to a different game, you need that games security cart and enough SIMMs to load it. The security cart still has a battery on.
The 2nd way is to use darksoft first crack at cps3 encryption and it allows you to play SF3, SF3 ThirdStrike, Red Earth, Jojo 1, and Jojo 2 on any security cart except SF3 2nd impact (the code is different compared to the other five carts). Essentially what you do is use darksofts tool to make a custom iso cd (which is how you load the games to the SIMMS) to fool the encryption of the security cart. The security cart must have a working battery, it can't be dead and it can't be a SF3 2nd impact cart either. This is what I am currently using for my CPS3 setup (battery jojo 1 cart is running jojo 2 heritage for the future at the moment)
The third method is using a SF3 2nd impact cart. Apparently if you remove the battery from the security cart, it will still function ( a major capcom oversight). Darksoft is currently working on tables to allow you to install any game you want from a custom iso. He has SF3 third strike working, but im not sure about any of the other games. There are still glitches in this process. due to the tables not mapping stuff out correctly. Additionally, if you have a dead security cart that isn't a SF3 2nd impact, you can reburn the chip on that cart and convert it to 2nd impact.
The only CPS3 game I know that has a widescreen mode is SF3 2nd impact.

That's exactly what I've read on reviving dead CPS3 carts. I didnn't even know about those other methods.
So it's only 2nd Impact GI that has Widesrceen support. Very interesting. I wonder why the last two releases (3S, Jojo's Heritage) didn't include it. Truth be told, I don't think I've ever come across a 2nd Impact GI cab with widescreen enabled. Does it look good by any chance?
Thank you much for that crash course on CPS3

Really intesting thanks for more info and the link.
