Yeah, I've looked around a bit. It's one of those mazes where I have to take the right stairway or else repeat the same floor ad nauseum.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Isn't the final dungeon some sort of weird maze too? I recall it being a pain in the ass.
7th Saga still rules though.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Thanks for all the info. I get it now.alienjesus wrote: As an unpromoted unit, you wanna reach 20 before using a master seal. Promoting adds +20 to your level in the games internal code, meaning you get less exp. If you want to reclass to another basic unit, it's MUCH better to do so before EVER promoting, because this +20 is still factored into the sum (which is a bit complicated) to work out how much exp you'll get. Reclassing before promotion is fine at any level from 10 onwards because you won't learn any new skills (unless you're a 'special class, eg. Villager, Dancer, Taguel, Manakete).
When you're a promoted unit, reclassing to another promoted unit is fine. It's best to do so at level 15 in general, once you've learned the final skill for that class. Doing so will slightly LOWER the games internal level for you, allowing you to level up faster, as well as learn new skills.
It's complicated, but this is the gist:-
Promoting:
- Don't use a master seal until you have ALL the skills you want from unpromoted classes
- Don't use a master seal until level 20 so you can get more exp.
- Promoting adds + 20 to your level in the games internal coding
Reclassing:
- Reclassing will LOWER your current level in the games code, but it WON'T lower it back down to 1. Reclassing means you'll get exp faster because you're a lower level.
- Before promotion, you can pretty much reclass whenever you like. I think I read level 15 is optimal for exp., but it makes little difference.
- Reclassing from a promoted class to an unpromoted class will still use the +20 levels from promotion in the formula, so you'll make it harder to gain exp than if you did it before promotion.
- Reclassing from a promoted class to a promoted class is fine.
- Reclass after level 15 promoted always - you'll lower your internal level, gain exp quicker and be able to get more skills.
Whew, it's a lot to take in right?
Looks like I can just reclass at lvl10 for with base classes as they learn a skill at lvl1 and lvl10. And special base class learns at lvl1, same as regular, but lvl15 instead of lvl10 and has no promoted class. And when I move to the promoted classes I should go to lvl15 to get all skills because they get skills at lvl5 and lvl15.
Depends on how much I want to grind too. I may not stick by lvl10 as the base reclass level because I am enjoying the game a lot and may feel like grinding for a long long time.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Yeah, it's much easier to just follow a few quick rules and not worry about the underlying exp math. Only use a master seal at 20, but second seal is a bit more complicated.alienjesus wrote:Whew, it's a lot to take in right?
If your class is unpromoted, use the second seal at 10
If your class is promoted, use it at 5, 10, or 15
Determining which level on promoted is based on the following rules:
If you only want the first skill of the promoted class and are trying to get to a base class, second seal at 5
If you only want the first skill and are trying to get to a promoted class, second seal at 10
If you want both skills, second seal at 15
One thing to note about the special classes that level up to 30; the non-DLC ones are not worth getting the level 15 skill for, as those skills only work when they're in that class.

Okay. So do I have to second seal before lvl10 on promoted class to get back to base class?MrPopo wrote:Yeah, it's much easier to just follow a few quick rules and not worry about the underlying exp math. Either way, you guys are helping a lot. I can see myself playing through this game multiple times. It's a lot more fun than I was expecting. Especially as someone who usually isn't that into first party Nintendo IPs. I respect them.. Just usually not THAT into them.
Re: RPG Progress Report
When you second seal on a promoted class at any level you can choose any of the available unpromoted classes. If you second seal on a promoted class at level 10 you can also select any of the available promoted classes. So when your tactition is level 10 promoted you can select any non-gender locked non-special class in the game.

Okay. And are promoted classes always not available unless I use a master seal?MrPopo wrote:When you second seal on a promoted class at any level you can choose any of the available unpromoted classes. If I have already gone through a bunch of unpromoted classes is it really that important that I wait til lvl20 to use a master seal? Or can I just use it when I am at lvl10 without much issue?
Re: RPG Progress Report
That's correct; you have to have used a master seal to get into the promoted classes, but once there you can use second seals to stay there. And if you've already gone through several unpromoted classes then you've probably been doing a ton of grinding, so having to get a little more experience due to jacking up your internal level won't matter. Internal level has a cap anyway that's fairly easy to reach.

Yeah. The level 20 thing is a bigger deal if it's the only base class you plan to use (which should be a majority of the time, as most base class skills aren't that great) or perhaps if you've only reclassed once.MrPopo wrote:That's correct; you have to have used a master seal to get into the promoted classes, but once there you can use second seals to stay there. For what it's worth, on Normal difficulty I found that most of my characters only got one oppurtunity to reclass by then time the game was over - I would've had to do lots of unnecessary grinding to even get two of the level 15 abilities for a character, never mind more than that. And that was doing all of the side chapters too.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Oooh. Guess I thought the game would be longer. I have done 8 chapters so far. Was planning on doing a few base classes and a few promoted classes with every character. So I should probably just aim for lvl20 and then promote? And if I really like this system I should just replay on a harder difficulty and do more grinding and do more reclassing?

Re: RPG Progress Report
I would aim for two promoted classes per character max. If you do 2 unpromoted units, expect to only manage to reach one level 15 skill at best. Some characters ARE worth reclassing whilst unpromoted though, just for the benefit of extra levels and stats that are otherwise hard to get. For example, Kellam might be worth reclassing as a thief early so he can enjoy the benefit of speed levels ups, then reclass him as a general or great knight later and he won't feel like such dead weight. Plus he can pick up Move + 1 to stop him lagging behind so much in that heavy armour. Miriel could enjoy her time as a dark mage to help patch up her shoddy defense.ZenErik wrote:Oooh. The only characters I would absolutely recommend reclassing are the special units. They don't promote and don't get more than 2 skills, so time spent in the other jobs are nice. Donnel you want to reclass ASAP as villager is the worst unit in the game (and he's an absolute demon in any other class) although you can go for Underdog if you want at level 15, it's probably not worth it. The Taguel and Manaketes enjoy the stat bonuses and skills from other classes before reclassing back in the late game, and even your dancer can become a killing machine if she spends some time elsewhere. The dancer is still useful either way though, so she's more optional than the other 3 imo.
