Re: RPG Progress Report
So, in The 7th Saga...
Kamil and Valsu are both level 49. I've gotten the runes again, though now they apparently will only help on the final boss, so really all they are doing is making me miss the old runes and cluttering my inventory space. I'm now at the final dungeon! Woo! I'm excited, I'm looking forward to taking on the boss, and WHAT THE FUCK?! So why is it, a level 49 Kamil with the BEST equipment in the game can be 1-shotted by a basic monster in the final dungeon? I hated that half the monsters on this final continent apparently were so good they could dodge light if they wanted. I hated that every monster requires me to power up Kamil's strength, and then half the time they immediately flee after, taking just long enough to make sure I wasted my MP. I hated the endless MP-draining ever-resurrecting monster trains (seriously, there's a group of 3 undead monsters in the second-to-last dungeon which repeatedly drain MP and use it to continuously resurrect any that you have managed to kill off. And with Valsu's endless MP restore from Elixer, it's like a bad automated system. I kill, they drain MP, they resurrect fallen friend, I restore MP, rinse, repeat. I had a single fight like this last for twenty minutes. That particular dungeon's bosses combined went down in less than half the time). So what the fuck is this shit?
Gentlemen, when I beat The 7th Saga, I will buy a second copy. I will then proceed to wipe my ass with that copy and mail it to the game's director and planner.

Wow, quite the departure from your early posts.Ack wrote:Gentlemen, when I beat The 7th Saga, I will buy a second copy. I will then proceed to wipe my ass with that copy and mail it to the game's director and planner.

Haha, nah, I still really enjoy the game. But yesterday I became quite frustrated with the enemies I was encountering and thought of that idea. I figured you all would get a kick out of it.MrPopo wrote:Wow, quite the departure from your early posts.Ack wrote:Gentlemen, when I beat The 7th Saga, I will buy a second copy. The 7th Saga has a steadily increasing difficulty curve throughout, but there are several times where it suddenly spikes, either due to enemies suddenly becoming more powerful, forcing the player to fight another character, or suddenly hindering the player's abilities by taking away their magic or removing the runes the characters have begun to heavily rely upon. It will make you feel accomplished to get past those portions though.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Isn't the final dungeon some sort of weird maze too? I recall it being a pain in the ass.
7th Saga still rules though.

Reclassing in Fire Emblem Awakening has me confused. So many options. What is recommended?
Looks like the last skill is gained at lvl15. So should I reclass then or go all the way to lvl20? Personal preference? Any vital skills I absolutely NEED?

Don't promote your guys until 20 (easier to gain exp. that way).ZenErik wrote:Reclassing in Fire Emblem Awakening has me confused. So many options. What is recommended?

At level 15 promoted you might as well change class. You'll find it easier to level up and you can get more skills too.
As for skills you absolutely NEED, not really, but most people would say Gale Force is the best skill in the game. Dark Fliers get it at level 15, they're a promotion option for Peg Knights. If you kill an enemy on your turn whilst you have Gale Force, you can move and attack again, it's pretty crazy.
Other noteworthy abilities: Astra (Swordmaster level 5), Sol (Hero level 5), Luna (Great Knight level 5), Pavise (General level 15), Vantage (Myrmidon level 10), Aegis (Paladin level 15), Lifetaker (Dark Knight 15), Renewal (War Monk/War Cleric 15), Deliverer (Griffon Knight level 5) and any of the 'breaker' abilities.
Unless you're playing on Lunatic or Lunatic+ though, you don't really need to any of this. Just do whatever you want to do with your guys, it'll generally work out OK.

Okay. So reclassing over and over at lvl15 isn't as good as waiting til 20?alienjesus wrote:Don't promote your guys until 20 (easier to gain exp. that way).ZenErik wrote:Reclassing in Fire Emblem Awakening has me confused. So many options. What is recommended?

Also, I can move an advanced class back to basic with a second seal, right?

Re: RPG Progress Report
As an unpromoted unit, you wanna reach 20 before using a master seal. Promoting adds +20 to your level in the games internal code, meaning you get less exp. If you want to reclass to another basic unit, it's MUCH better to do so before EVER promoting, because this +20 is still factored into the sum (which is a bit complicated) to work out how much exp you'll get. Reclassing before promotion is fine at any level from 10 onwards because you won't learn any new skills (unless you're a 'special class, eg. Villager, Dancer, Taguel, Manakete).ZenErik wrote: Okay. When you're a promoted unit, reclassing to another promoted unit is fine. It's best to do so at level 15 in general, once you've learned the final skill for that class. Doing so will slightly LOWER the games internal level for you, allowing you to level up faster, as well as learn new skills.
It's complicated, but this is the gist:-
Promoting:
- Don't use a master seal until you have ALL the skills you want from unpromoted classes
- Don't use a master seal until level 20 so you can get more exp.
- Promoting adds + 20 to your level in the games internal coding
Reclassing:
- Reclassing will LOWER your current level in the games code, but it WON'T lower it back down to 1. Reclassing means you'll get exp faster because you're a lower level.
- Before promotion, you can pretty much reclass whenever you like. I think I read level 15 is optimal for exp., but it makes little difference.
- Reclassing from a promoted class to an unpromoted class will still use the +20 levels from promotion in the formula, so you'll make it harder to gain exp than if you did it before promotion.
- Reclassing from a promoted class to a promoted class is fine.
- Reclass after level 15 promoted always - you'll lower your internal level, gain exp quicker and be able to get more skills.
Whew, it's a lot to take in right?
