If I'm taking my time to see someone or someone takes the time to visit me, I won't waste their time and I find it rude if it they waste mine. And some of my friends do waste my time.
If you have an incoming call all you have to say is "Excuse me for one quick second, this call is important". And if it isn't an important call, send it to voice mail. I'll also say the "I gotta answer this tweet" and "I've got to post this on facebook, right now!" people could be better spending their time with conversation and interaction (if it isn't part of their paying job).
