PAL tv in USA work with retro?

Post by alexretro »

I can buy a PAL trinitron in Los Angeles. Will my retro systems work on it? The tv comes with power converter. I want to buy it because it has SCART on it. Figured I would save money using scart for my retro systems.

More than likely yes it will.

I live in PAL land, and pretty much every TV I have ever had that has a SCART connector is capable of showing a 60hz signal through the SCART.

Not sure if it will work with your NTSC consoles if you are using composite or s-video though. New PAL TV's do, but not older ones

I have an early 90's mammoth of a Phillips that displays NTSC (I also live in PAL land). It all depends on the tv as far as I can tell.

here is the photo of the tv, so i think it is pretty late model and "newer".

Look up specs on the model number and look at display modes, see if PAL-60 is listed. If so, then it should work.

Most likely it will. But yeah, look up the specs. Check if it's capable of displaying an NTSC signal and that it's 60hz compatible. Pretty much all modern TVs are.

Your lightguns won't work with that screen, however.

All the retro systems using SCART cables should work fine. The RGB signal coming through the cable is 15khz reguardless of whether the console is PAL or NTSC. As long as the display takes 240p you're set.
Nice find!
