Some companies have also charged for cheat codes. Yuck!
I have a love/hate relationship with announcers. They are cool but often get grating after a while.
Cool tropes that you love.

I got soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooBogusMeatFactory wrote:You can blame the cheat code issue with achievements. I remember when some games did have cheat codes there would be a warning saying if you do this, you can't get any achievements.
Guess they placed a higher priority on the achievements over the cheats.
pissed when I bought the cheat pack for Dead Rising 2 Off the Record and I couldn't save while using cheats and I lost the ability to get 'chieves for the game without warning.

Re: Cool tropes that you love.
I'm a huge fan of boss battles, and they are actually a trope if you think about. A game doesn't have to have them, and I've heard gamers argue for why they shouldn't even be in modern games at all. PC gamers in particular don't seem to like them, as I guess it's something more identified with console gaming. To me, a good boss fight is the climax of a stage. Often times, it's that awesome, memorable part of a game that you want to show someone who hasn't played the game. THIS is why the game I'm playing is awesome! Plus, boss battles often test you to use everything you've learned up until that point. It's the final exam. If you don't pass, you don't graduate to the next level.
You think about how many classic boss fights are cemented in our memories like Seven Force from Gunstar Heroes, the lake monster from Resident Evil 4, or you know who from Final Fantasy 7 with his epic one winged angel theme music. The Kingdom Hearts games on the PS2, for all their flaws, I still love them for their amazing boss battles with classic Disney villains
We've sort of touched on this already, but I am a big fan of the omnipresent yet never seen voices in arcade games that yell out things like, "Finish him!" or "Let's go crazy!" or "the green warrior is about to die." I especially love when console games capture that like in X-Men Legends you'd frequently hear some invisible guy yell out "COMBO!" when you combined two X-Men's powers together. Generally speaking, I loved how over the top, LOUD, bright and colorful arcade games were. I think Lollipop Chainsaw captured that very well, particularly whenever you got Sparkle Hunting.
That just brings out the kid in me
