The answer to this, for me, used to be "a new iD or Valve engine". However, since PC gaming has largely been stunted in graphics development with the emphasis on console-influenced scalability over the past decade, I haven't been able to use new gaming engines as a barometer as much. (Besides, who the hell upgraded their PC for Rage?). So I have been "rocking" a GeForce 8800GTS since 2008 or so. It worked very well with even last year's Borderlands 2 (without PhysX) at fairly high settings, so I haven't yet seen a good argument to upgrade.ZeroAX wrote:A better question would be how many games you want to see with the highest graphic settings, does it take to upgrade your PC?
I'll probably upgrade to something that's slightly stronger than what the PS4/new Xbox is using once those are on the market as I suspect that the trend of PC development that's beholden to console baselines will continue for the foreseeable future...
