Just another reason to dislike Capcom and the Wii U
With all the positive reviews for the Resident Evil Revelations HD remake for the home consoles and PC, I was actually excited at the thought of being able to play the Wii U version, because I LOVED how well the Wiimote & nunchuck worked on the Resident Evil 4 edition for the Wii.
But guess what? That control option has been surprisingly omitted! Same as the Classic Controller option. Instead, you either have to use the Wii U gamepad or the 360-style one. So older Wii controls are not an option!
First off... what a horrible, HORRIBLE decision by the development team to not include the Wiimote controls after how well-received those controls were on RE4! If they had included this option, I may have actually considered buying a Wii U due to this game alone. That's how much I enjoyed the RE4: Wii Edition.
Second, I thought backwards compability of the original Wii controls were supposed to be a big selling point for the system? But so far, it seems like most of the bigger titles do not include them, when that control option might have made for a VERY NICE bonus to have. Games like Mass Effect 3, Zombi U and Batman: Arkham Asylum would have been really cool to play with the Wii's motion controls. But instead, you're stuck with the over-sized gaming pad. I understand they're trying to push the new controller, but they should still give us that option. Activision included it on Black Ops 2 and it works wonderfully. So what gives?

It makes more sense to develop with the gamepad in mind because it is guaranteed that the player has that controller.

I think that was probably their thought process, too.Opa Opa wrote:It makes more sense to develop with the gamepad in mind because it is guaranteed that the player has that controller.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I understand the frustration. To not even include it can be a bit of an issue. Maybe they will hear the cry and update it to include those controls?
On the plus side, you still can make a zombie say, "Mashed Potatooooooeeessss"
I do agree that their mindset was to really incorporate the gamepad and pro controller, since a lot of people were clamoring for the pro controller support.

If this was a zero sum game, sure. But they already had worked out how to make the Wii Remote controls work in other games, so they should have included the Wii Remote as a control option. Yes, of course they needed gamepad controls, and those would justifiably be the default option, but that's no reason to exclude a Wii Remote option.Opa Opa wrote:It makes more sense to develop with the gamepad in mind because it is guaranteed that the player has that controller.

If this keeps you from playing it, be glad. The game is severely overrated.

I'm not against Wii remote support, but at the bottom line it probably isn't worth the time and resources to include Kinect, PS Move, and Wii remote support in a 3DS port.

Also, having the Wii Remote support would diminish the work put into the Gamepad support. Think about, lockpicking and such which was handled on the gamepad. They also did incorporate the Miiverse into the game in a really ridiculously awesome way, which I am in full support of.Opa Opa wrote:I'm not against Wii remote support, but at the bottom line it probably isn't worth the time and resources to include Kinect, PS Move, and Wii remote support in a 3DS port.

You also need to keep in mind that so many people have complained about the Wii's controller in the past that they probably decided to omit it on that alone. I mean, Capcom admitted that they want to be the Japanese Activision or EA. I don't blame them for being all about this "core gamer" demographic that doesn't know anything about anything.

But Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition had very positive reviews, most notably for its controls. That's why this doesn't make sense to me.soul_hacker wrote:You also need to keep in mind that so many people have complained about the Wii's controller in the past that they probably decided to omit it on that alone. Having the new Wii U gamepad be the set controls by default... that's fine.
But the Wiimote & Nunchuck really should have been a 2nd option, for reasons previously stated
It's just a lazy port in my eyes. In this case, there's no reason to choose the Wii U version over the PS3/360/PC ones!
