saturn vs dreamcast on shmups and fighters
saturn vs dreamcast on shmups and fighters
I ust wanted to know since the Saturn is a 2d powerhouse and the dreamcast is notorious for its perfect at ade ports, what is a better system for fighters and shmups? I know that they are both different gen systems but shmups and 2d fighters they both have and which has more or better out of the two? I'm not talking about 3d because the dreamcast would smoke the Saturn out of the water. And since this site has great sega fan base I was just curious if anyone wants to give some thoughts. I will say the Saturn padis better for fighters and shmups.

Well, there is truth behind it, mostly thanks to both Capcom and SNK for bombarding the console with a bunch of decent arcade/fighting compilations near the end of the consoles run. And I actually don't mind the PS2 controller for fighters at all. It's good stuff.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:PS2, obviously

The correct answer is both!
Over the last two years I have managed to build up my import saturn library, so I would pick saturn if I must choose. The amount of shmups is endless and having an action replay 4m allows you to play the systems best fighters.

yeah. I really don't know how to answer. There's so many good shmups and fighters on both consoles. It's rough. I guess if I was forced to choose I might nod to DC for having both Third Strike and Garou. But then again, the Saturn has such an impressive shmup library, it's unreal.Bradtemple87 wrote:The correct answer is both!

Yeah, basically the DC just carried on the trend of being an arcade port powerhouse. So to choose between the 2 would come down to which games you prefer from each era.

I personally lean Saturn because I love the controller so much.
Also, I somehow own no shmups for Dreamcast. So my personal collection pushes me further on the Saturn side?

It's like choosing between air and water. You need both, but they serve different purposes.
I find myself using them both equally. It just depends on which particular game I'm into at the moment.

Ok gotcha I'll just have to buy that all in 1 action replay for the Saturn and star buying imports. American games are too much money now.
Re: saturn vs dreamcast on shmups and fighters
I will be the one to say Dreamcast. It just stems from my favorite games in those genres. My favorite shmup being Giga Wing 2. And how can you go wrong with CvS and GGX. I know Dead or Alive 2 is a 3D fighter but its still my favorite 3D one. I don't really play these on the Dreamcast though, instead I play them on the Naomi. I do love the Saturn and am in no way trying to down play it, just listing my favorite stuff.
