any rare expensive games really worth the price?

At a time I wanted to collect all the capcom nes games. I got most of them except for the top 5.
Ducktales 2, gargoyles 2, mighty final fight, snow bros, and rescue rangers 2. I know the mega man series are up there also but I managed to get a great deal for all 6. But my question is are any of these rare expensive games for the nes or any system for that matter really worth the value of the game? Look at bonk's adventure for the nes. It goes for 2-300.00 dollars and for that price you can buy a th-16 and get bonks and a few more games. What about earthbound? 200.00 and for that i can take the family for a day trip out to canobi lake park.
I played the nes rare games and in my own opinion thinks the rare nes games aren't worth hundreds of dollars.
Whats your opinion on this? Are there any really rare expensive games really worth the price? It can be anything you can think of.

I would argue that no game should be worth more than 100$. 99% of the time there is a cheaper way to play expensive games. I've been shopping around for blazing star on the AES and I just can't justify that high entry cost. 500-600$ is the most I could spend on a game. But with that money I could easily fill out my collection allot better. Expensive games suck. I feel compelled to buy allot of them with the mindset of" 5 years from now I won't be able to afford X game."

As a general rule, I refuse to pay more than the price of a new game ($60) for a used retro one. Be patient, hit the flea markets, set a low bid on ebay auctions and then walk away and hope you get lucky... I just got Popful Mail (complete) for $55.

Ohh I'm not really looking for any rare titles anymore. If I find something then cool. I was just saying what game is really worth the price. And for me i would spend 25-30.00 the most for a retro game.

If they're still within a reasonable price range, I would say that the two Lunar games for the PS1 are absolutely worth the money. I played them in high school and to this day, they still rank among the best I've ever played.

BoneSnapDeez's rule of thumb is a good one. Earthbound is an excellent game for example, but when I finally got a SNES I wasn't willing to drop $80 on it, and now that it's hyperinflated I'm definitely not going to pay $200 for a worn cart-only with a dead internal battery.

EDIT: Going with how patience is a virtue, a few years ago I picked up Phantasy Star Online episodes 1 and 2 for Gamecube, at the time around $50, for only $5

As said before often cheaper ways and similar enough alternatives. It's not like you'll really miss much getting Megaman X3 in Japanese, or Snow Bros for Gameboy instead of NES. Stuff of that sort.

I can't think of any used game I'd pay more than $50 for, unless I really wanted it and somehow knew the price was about to go even higher. Earthbound is the only time I've paid that much for an old game.

A rare game is worth the investment if it holds value for me. I know most of the rare items I have bought and sold over the years almost always return their worth.
