If he's not viewing HD content, there's really no reason to get an HD CRT. Ultra heavy, broken lightgun support... Just find a CRT that does 480p and you'll have everything you need.
I doubt it, on my WEGA HD CRTs, I could only get the up and down to work and only marginally. Its an issue of the lightgun not being able to match the higher scan speed of the HD CRT. If your vintage lightguns do work completely with your HD CRT I'm interested in the model number.
If it actually changes its scan rate for the lower resolutions, I could see them working. Very few sets capable of HD resolutions do that, but they're out there.
Again you try to dispute my post with no knowledge of what you are talking about.

Please, explain the benefit of getting an HD CRT if you aren't going to even be viewing any HD content.

"No knowledge of what you're talking about," pff, from the guy who claims "dot crawl" is a scaling artifact. Get over yourself.

Here is my Guide, feel free to take time and post one yourself instead of egging on everyone.

If in doubt, go with the 16. Usually a higher model number means a better product. More features, or just a later revision. This Wikipedia page lists the 16 as having one S-Video input and the 15 as having two, but I don't know if that's correct. It doesn't specify any other inputs. If you can view pictures of both, the second S-Video input is probably a front input (in addition to composite) so that would make it easy to figure out. Otherwise, they're probably largely the same TV. I doubt one has anything missing from the other that is of any importance.

The remote might be important to you, so that might help you choose which set to get. If neither set has a remote included, look up the manual for each set to find the remote part number, then try and find that remote on eBay or similar. You need the remote to get into the secret menu, which you might have to do to get the TV 100% calibrated. If you're hunting for a Trinitron Wega specifically, then calibrating is something you might wanna do.

Look up the manual anyway, for each model, and read through them both. That should clue you in if there's a major difference between the two models. But I doubt there is.

oh one thing I'd consider with a CRT is overscan. On my Sanyo a few games the overscan is enough to cut off scores or lifebars etc a bit. It sucks. So then I have to play in 16:9 to see the top/bottom of the screen. :\

Luckily, a lot of CRT's have a Service Mode you can go into to adjust the overscan. Can't find how to so on mine yet.

Overscan SUCKS, but I'd rather have a little clipping than squishing it into 16:9 mode.

That's why I pointed out the fact about the remote in my above post though. When I was looking up how to access the secret menu for Wegas, I found out that you need the remote.

word. I'd love to know how to get my DS24425 into service mode so I can get rid of stupid overscan.

The Remote is a good point and making sure it is fully matched. For instance, my WEGAs have two RF inputs. The second RF input can only be selected with the ANT button on the Remote, this is handy setting to just one channel in memory for a dedicated game console such as an Atari 2600. When I was on a search of backup spare remotes, many did not come with the ANT button.

Good point on the Overscan. If the hidden Service Menu can be accessed, just be careful. Some have bricked their TV by not entering the codes correctly. On the Sonys for instance it is not just a slide bar compared to the regular menu. I miss the potentiometers inside older CRTs that did this "mechanically". Maybe yours might have this inside?

Well, they don't work. I must have been thinking of another TV that was setup in the same area or something.

That's a bummer. I wonder if, for the most advanced lightguns, if there'd be a way to make them work with some added circuitry on the connection. Something I've thought about looking into for awhile.
