Need Help Picking A CRT
Hi all,
I'm looking for a new CRT for my set up; I want a really good, but cheap, 36'' Trinitron. I need it for all my pre Xbox systems, as well as laserdisc and dvd/vcr. It's got to work with light guns as well. I got two in the area that are for sale, and I have to act fast.
They are:
KV36FS16
And
KV36FV15
Are these good for my needs? What are the differences?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Component video is useful. Nearest potential quality to RGB scart on mainstream sets.
Lum fan.

Yeah, as I understand it both models have componet.

I don't know the specifics of those models, but for lightguns to work, make sure they don't have flat screens. (And yes, even though "flatscreen CRT" sounds like an oxymoron, it's a thing.)

Well, I think as long as it isn't a HD CRT or a Hi-scan model light guns should work, I have a flat screen jvc CRT and they work fine with it.

To note, I have a HD CRT Samsung set and the lightguns I have work on it (as far as I remember). But I only have the Zapper and GunCon 1.
Actually, I'll try them out later today and come back to make sure.

Flat Screen is somtimes confused as a HD ScreenJohndutch1987 wrote:I'm looking for a new CRT for my set up; I want a really good, but cheap, 36'' Trinitron. Either of the Standard Definition TVs you listed will work with your vintage lightguns. Of note even though the TVs have a component input you will not get 480p on them, the TV has to be at least an Extended Definition tube. The PS2 Guncon 2 does have an EDTV 480p option in it but not the other vintage lightguns
I think you are better off investing in a HD CRT. The gain in HD picture quality is worth losing the light gun support. Especially when you hookup a DVD or PS2 thru the component connection and enable 480p. Of note if you have a Dreamcast try the lightgun with a VGA CRT monitor, displays and works beautiful!
I doubt it, on my WEGA HD CRTs, I could only get the up and down to work and only marginally. Its an issue of the lightgun not being able to match the higher scan speed of the HD CRT. If your vintage lightguns do work completely with your HD CRT I'm interested in the model number.Cronozilla wrote:To note, I have a HD CRT Samsung set and the lightguns I have work on it (as far as I remember). If he's not viewing HD content, there's really no reason to get an HD CRT. Ultra heavy, broken lightgun support... Just find a CRT that does 480p and you'll have everything you need.CRTGAMER wrote: I think you are better off investing in a HD CRT. If it actually changes its scan rate for the lower resolutions, I could see them working. Very few sets capable of HD resolutions do that, but they're out there.I doubt it, on my WEGA HD CRTs, I could only get the up and down to work and only marginally.
