I'm hoping this will happen just about everywhere.
I think the main problem is suckers who pay the over inflated prices though. Until they stop, people will keep charging top dollar if they can get away with it.

I have a lot of various locations I can go to, depending on how far out I want to drive, around 10 or so, and the best advice I can give after a few years of going to all of them, is to go as often as you can, on weekdays if possible, and as early as possible. I used to stop into one Goodwill specifically on my way home from work almost every day. My best finds used to be when I worked nights, and I was able to go to the stores in the morning, at one point I had found like 3 Saturns! The games are out there, you just gotta beat the other guy to it.

Augh, I was at a gamestore yesterday and saw Super Metroid for $45. Thought "Ripoff!"

Just looked at ebay, and the last 20 or so sold for $50 buy it now.

What's wrong with people?

SNES stuff in general is rising sharply in price, lately. And Super Metroid is one of the best on the system, without a doubt. So it's not all that surprising.

Best place for old cart games is flea markets. Yard sales are also pretty good but you have to get out and about early.

If your into newer stuff like last gen games then I highly recommend scoping out all the pawn shops in your area. Especially look for places that have flat rate pricing. A couple shops in my area charge $2-3 for last gen and older games, and $7-10 for current gen games.

Then I went back into the sports equipment section and found a stack of sega genesis sports games in a bucket of baseballs. You just never know what goes through the mind of a non-gamer when stocking these items. Granted it wasn't stadium events in there, but still shows that you can find games anywhere. A friend hooked a Vectrex from a guy who "had an old atari" in his closet.
Heh, that was likely some other collector hiding the games till he came back to buy them.

Theres still some finds left out there. Just when I think its all dried up stuff just comes out of the wild. A friend just got Contra Force in a bundle of games and systems at a garage sale. So the cool stuff is still floating around in some of these markets with other game hunters.

90% of the time thirft stores are a bust because they get picked over pretty fast and the stores have started catching on and pricing things higher and higher. Flea markets still can yield good stuff from people who don't look anything up, which is rare these days. Just got to keep at it and keep an eye out. Make friends with local game stores or pawn shops they might give you a heads up on cool stuff that comes in before it goes on sale.

Yeah lol you always have to be vigilant you aren't the only one out there looking for games. I always look closely around the video game sections at pawn shops and thrift stores sometimes people hide good games they aren't sure about buying to the side. They are especially bad in my area for hiding the in the cd or dvd section since they are so close together in most stores especially keep an eye out for flipped over cases a lot of lazier people think hiding the label is enough to stop people from buying stuff :P.

Also flea markets are amazing especially the outdoor/temp stalls just be sure to hit them early. Every flea market has that 1 stall with overpriced VG stuff and those guys will usually try to scavenge all the good game deals they can from other sellers so they can keep their little monopoly going :P.

I'm a hermit and terrible at getting out and about. This means I've been forced to buy games online, and that's been digging into my pocket more than I'd like.

Sometimes we will hit up thrift stores and flea markets on my days off, but I rarely turn up anything at all. My work is moving right across the street from a Goodwill, so this means I'll most likely be checking stock every couple days or so, since I can just walk to it. It's hard for me to get over the laziness and go the the fleas on the weekend and spend hours digging through crap, and not find a damn thing.

So far, that's been my experience. Living in a city has made given me more options, but the only place I've ever found games worth buying is at reseller stands and our local video game store.

The only great deals I've gotten recently have been from Craigslist, but you have to check it every day and sometimes several times a day. I recently missed out on a really cheap Dreamcast Kiosk and have been kicking myself in the butt every day for it. I had JUST missed it, because I was too lazy to get out of bed on time... :(

Half Price Books in my area has been great recently. I picked up some good stuff on the cheap, and I have a stack of 10% off coupons so that makes it even better. HPB uses Amazon/eBay to price their stuff, but if it sits a while they drastically reduce the prices.

Another tip...if you find some good games in a pawn shop or thrift store that look like they were only recenty made available for purchase, you should check back in the next day. When stores like this get in large lots of video games, the employees often do not have time to tag all of them immediately. Accordingly, they may put part of a lot out one day and another part of the lot out the next day.

This tactic worked for me this morning. I grabbed a tremendous lot of PS2 RPGs from a local pawn shop this weekend. I decided to stop back by the pawn shop this morning, and - sure enough - there were even more great games available for sale. (Unfortunately for me, I already owned most of the new games (i.e., FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, Half Life, etc...but I still grabbed a complete copy of RPG Maker 3 for $3!)

Finally, I have grabbed a ton of games this year, and except for the Hobie/Jmustang sale and a couple 2600 lots from Racketboy members, I acquired all of them "in the wild." There are games out there. You just have to keep looking for them.
