So far, so good in 7th Saga. I chose the human knight for my main character, since he seems so center of the road. I'm leaning towards getting the human priest for my secondary, since his healing spells are a beast! But for now, still alone. I've managed to grind myself up to level 14, and I'm in the Earth Cave...at least, I think that is what it is called.
I can see why this game has its reputation, as it certainly isn't a cakewalk. The first boss wasn't terribly difficult, as I was level 9 going into the fight. But the Undead enemies were quite a challenge immediately after that! It's doable, but the sudden jump was a bit on the brutal side. Still, I'm sticking with it. I enjoy the challenge, and I believe I'm a solid enough RPG player to be able to handle this.

Ever played the original SNES/PSX Tactics Ogre? Now there's a good challenge.
Isn't 7th Saga an SRPG? Think I dabbed in it once before but it's been awhile. I recall the graphics being awesome.
I might be mixing this all up with Bahamut Lagoon... I mix those up for some reason.

I've played the PSP version of Tactics Ogre. It allows you to undo up to 50 moves, but it's quite a challenge if you decide not to use that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're confusing it with Bahamut Lagoon. 7th Saga is much more of a JRPG. But no, I've not gotten to try Tactics Ogre yet. I have beaten the GBA one, and I have a copy of Ogre Battle 64 just waiting for me to have time for it one day, but the SNES one is expensive and not yet in my collection.Xeogred wrote:Ever played the original SNES/PSX Tactics Ogre? Yeah I forget the SNES release hit stateside. I think I've seen it at Vintage Stock off and on over the years for $50 or something, same for a PSX copy. The PSX version is up on PSN though, but I watched a bit of a LP of that one and it's got some nasty lag during magic attacks and stuff. I actually preferred the SNES music too from what I heard, but the music is great all around.
Knight of Lodis(?) on the GBA felt like a tutorial for the first game, lol, it was a cakewalk in comparison. Never lost any unit, but LuCT on the other hand... I pretty much had to make sacrifices to carry on, I think I lost 10 units in total. I'm usually really OCD about that stuff (like in Fire Emblem) and hate losing characters, but yeah it was that brutal, I just had to push forward lol. I definitely prefer these games to FFT personally. Get to use ~10 units in battle, key characters aren't overpowered, class system isn't as tedious as the job system, etc.
Whoa yeah, 7th Saga looks pretty cool. Maybe I did never try that one out actually...

I really liked my Job system though. My ninjas with chakra and my holy sword users with Sword Boost...
er, it was kind of broken. I wish there was some more content to really test my skills, but the job system itself was a lot of fun.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Oh, FFT was ridiculously easy to break. Just run a party of female monks with the ninja dual wield ability, the dancer +3 move ability, and the squire abilities for Accumulate. Watch hilarity ensue as you can outrun everyone on the field, can boost physical attack power, can heal/cure status/revive, can attack from a distance, and up close can attack twice for max damage.
Re: RPG Progress Report
I too used the human priest as my secondary. Ice spells and massive amounts of healing. I went with the alien character as my primary -- powerful barehanded physical attack, and decent fire magic later on.Ack wrote:So far, so good in 7th Saga. Re: RPG Progress Report
Final Fantasy II for the GBA was somewhat easy to break. Just power up the Berserk spell to a high level, and use it on Guy and/or Firion, and let the damage add up.
Re: RPG Progress Report
I'm interested in how that dynamic plays out. I know from experience I would want my primary to be a physical tank, so the dwarf, the alien, the robot, or the human knight were the ones I wanted to pick from. What was the alien like to play as? And for those who played a lot of 7th Saga, who was your favorite character to play as?
