Let's at least wait to see how this is actually utilized by game devs before passing judgemnet, shall we? We can criticize the Kinect, Move, or Wii U screen based on its actual usage at this point. By contrast, we don't know how/if this device might pan out, nor do we know if it will be a high-margin "revenue enhancing device". So just stop.
Methinks thou doth protest too much. I didn't say it was an inherently bad idea, but I don't think it's as mind blowing as they're trying to make it seem. Since we're just talking about a prototype at this point, not nearly ready for market, it seems like they're overselling it and that, to me, seems like they're attempting to overcompensate for the beating the 360 took from Nintendo's "lame kiddie system" (which is what a lot of 360 fans called it BTW).

The implication is that they want Xbox fanboys to crow about how superior the technology is, but if the games aren't any better than they would be without the projector, who cares? If the final product is substantially better than what we see here, than that's fine, but if all we get is what's shown in the video, then I just can't see spending the kind of money it's going to cost on what amounts to a fancy light show. Now if they invented a true virtual reality game system, that would be something to get excited about, but this isn't it. I'm entitled to my opinion, just like you're entitled to say I'm wrong.

Not to speak for Dave, but that's your speculation, not MS's implication.

It's an interesting idea and I look forward to see how it pans out.

The effect this would have on first person games would be astounding. If Microsoft can come up with a low cost version that enables those features, it could make console fps a more viable alternative for me(since I currently prefer PC for the genre).

I am interested in how this works out, even if it results in nothing much. It is an incredibly cool idea.

This is really awesome... except it would probably be only for the new Xbox.

Seems like you'd need a dedicated media room though; I'd hate to have a projector/kinect combo hovering in the middle of a living room.

The demo looks impressive, but I can't see it being a great feature in reality, my living room wouldn't work with it, for example, since my TV is rather large and it doesn't have much of a wall behind it, not to mention the room itself is just not that big in the first place. A lot of people have houses like this and MS seems to think we all live in mansions with the kinect stuff and now this. Not trying to bash on the brand but they do tend to make things that wouldn't work well in limited space.

They also assume I would be playing in the dark most of the time? That tends to strain my eyes so I'd pass again. A lot of their examples seem more like a distraction, but extending the FOV is always nice. Don't know why you would really need a TV at that point unless there's some lag involved. Cool concept, but the reality of it would end up being another piece of gaming clutter that wouldn't benefit me or enhance my games in the slightest.

The project isn't finished, but I would speculate that yeah, you'll need dark room. But that doesn't mean you're playing in the dark as most projectors put out a lot of light. Unfortunately they also put out a lot of heat.

But I can't bash a product I haven't tried. I'm simply looking forward to seeing how this accessory goes through its development. Interesting stuff.

based on the explanations in the video, three of those reasons are bullshit. According to that, It also works in medium to low light (not just darkness), it works in any room with a TV against a wall, and in the clips shown it is more about putting effects in your peripheral sight than it is about "extending the field of vision" in a mode that would make the projected content vital to gameplay.

Can we for once not shit on a new tech just because it is new and/or it comes from some developer you don't like? Let's wait and see, then shit all over if it is justified.
