Might get a Vita, need advice.

Some of them, but it seems more common for PSN titles.
Re: Might get a Vita, need advice.
I see...
I guess in the end it'll depend on how much I can get him to sell it for. He's got alot of good games too. Gravity Rush, Uncharted, BlazBlue, UMvC3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Rayman Origins, and I can't remember what else.
I'll have to think about this for a while honestly. It's a great piece of hardware to be sure and PS Plus looks like a great deal, but I'm not really sure if I really want it or not. If there was a clearer picture of what was in the pipeline I'd be alot more excited.

It's entirely the latter. The PSP also used a proprietary format. Sony has a long history of creating new formats and pushing them hard. Sometimes it takes, like with Blu Ray, and sometimes it doesn't.isiolia wrote:Probably in part because people hacked the shit out of the PSP. Probably in part due to the potential for a high profit margin accessory versus having everyone buy the cheapest other brand.

Well, I was looking around amazon and I saw a lot of really good PSP games $20 and under. I'm sort've enticed to just go and get a PSP now instead. This way I'd be able to add to my collection with the physical games.
How many PSP games are available digitally on PSN and at what costs are most listed at? $19.99?
One more thing...do all PSP games run on the Vita? I'm aware some PS1 games don't run so I was just curious.

Perhaps, but, the DRM angle certainly doesn't hurt when no other companies can produce the cards, there are no card readers, etc. The Memory Stick Pro Duo format was Sony's format, but it's wider use meant third party cards and such.MrPopo wrote: It's entirely the latter. Most PSP games that are also available at retail are in the $9.99-19.99 range, with the occasional title going higher. You can browse that on your PS3 if you want, since you can download things to your PS3 (or PC) to transfer to a PSP or Vita anyway.CavZee wrote:How many PSP games are available digitally on PSN and at what costs are most listed at? $19.99?

That said, PS+ will cut the price of some titles, or usually sale prices will be significant (50% off or something).
What's available digitally does not encompass the entire PSP library, though quite a lot is there. There are also some titles that are only available digitally, like the Corpse Party localizations. Far as I know, the limitations of the Vita's compatibility here is that a game is available via PSN, and not UMD only.
IMO, where costs can be more attractive are with PSone Classics, since the pricing there tends to be $5.99 or $9.99.
Re: Might get a Vita, need advice.
But you didn't need anything but a PSP and USB cable to hack your PSP. No need for third party memory cards. And from a piracy standpoint making a card reader would be dirt cheap for a company, just like how they used to produce those magic batteries for early PSP hacking. Sony made a new format because that's their modus operendi.isiolia wrote:Perhaps, but, the DRM angle certainly doesn't hurt when no other companies can produce the cards, there are no card readers, etc. The Memory Stick Pro Duo format was Sony's format, but it's wider use meant third party cards and such.MrPopo wrote: It's entirely the latter. OK, I've gotta say at this point I'm leaning towards not purchasing it. I just don't see enough Vita games now or upcoming that interest me enough. A lot of the games he has for his Vita I could grab on PS3 for well under $20.
I'm still quite interested in PSP software though, so I may just pick up a PSP sometime soon and build a library around that.
